The incident took place at around 9.50am today.

The 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily jarm.

Cllr Gwenllian Ashley said the whole community has been left in shock following the stabbing.

Cllr Ashley said: 'I had just got home from Aberystwyth and my phone went off and it was my daughter asking if I had heard what had happened.

'I was walking later and people stopped to talk about it and everyone is just really shocked.

'It's a very close-knit community and things like this just don't happen around here. It's just so rare - it's not like we have gang violence or anything like that in Borth.

'The area it happened in is a very quiet area and is a lane that goes from the main road. People often go that way to walk to church or walk their dogs.

'I think it's important that people continue on as normal and aren't scared.'

Detective Inspector Jon Rees, senior investigating officer at Dyfed-Powys Police, said officers will remain in the village carrying out enquiries.

DI Rees said: 'There has been a heavy police presence in Borth since this morning and officers remain in the village this afternoon to carry out house to house enquiries and establish more information about the attack.

'We made a swift arrest following the report to us and I would like to reassure the community we are not looking for anyone else at this time.

'I understand this is a concerning incident and would encourage anyone who is worried to speak to any police officer or PCSO in the area, who will be happy to help you.'

Police initially said the injured man was aged 60 but it has since emerged he is 71.

The footpath leading to the lions at Borth Animal Kingdom was closed this morning due to the incident.

In a statement earlier, the zoo said: 'Due to a serious incident on the land adjacent to the zoo, Not related to the zoo in any way.

'The footpath leading to the lions has been cordoned off by the police. So there will be no access to members of the public.

'We will let you know when this has been lifted. Many apologies for those wishing to visit our lions today.'

The attraction later said the path had been reopened.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
