«Breaking News» Tesla FINALLY launches $35,000 base version of its Model 3 sedan two years after promising the price

Tesla has finally added a $35,000 sedan to its Model 3 line-up.

CEO Elon Musk has been promising the mass market price tag since the firm first unveiled the Model 3 back in 2016, but has struggled to hit that goal in the time since.

But, just last month Musk said he hoped the lowest price version would be here before the end of the year.

After the CEO teased an announcement in a series of cryptic tweets earlier this week, the electric car-maker quietly added a Standard Range Model to its online shop, starting at $35,000 before savings.

The firm suspended orders on its website ahead of its mysterious announcement this evening, and promised 'great things are launching.'

Just yesterday, the company’s eccentric CEO sent his Twitter followers into a frenzy when he posted that he would be sharing ‘some Tesla news’ on Thursday.

The statement came amid a number of unusual changes to his profile, including a brief tweak to his display name in which he became Elon Tusk, and a short-lived cameo from an alien emoji.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss also posted a poll about making 'the Mars Technocracy real.'

On Wednesday, the Tesla CEO promised he would have 'news' at 2 p.m. California time (5 p.m. ET) on Thursday.

A few hours later, Musk tweeted cryptically: 'ET phone home. No answer.'

The company, deep in debt as it ramps up production of its popular Model 3 sedan, is due to repay a $920 million convertible bond just a day later.

In a series of tweets to his 25 million followers following charges from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this week, Musk accused the regulator of failing to read Tesla's annual reports and said its oversight was 'broken'.

In a flurry of late-night tweets on Wednesday, the Tesla CEO changed his display name to 'Elon Tusk' without explanation, aside from an elephant emoji to punctuate it. He also said he would be sharing 'some Tesla news' on Thursday

Musk had promised last year to have his public statements vetted by the company's board, as part of a settlement with the SEC that headed off demands for him to resign as Tesla CEO.

The SEC contempt motion followed Musk's tweet on Feb. 19: 'Tesla made 0 cars in 2011, but will make around 500k in 2019,' meaning 500,000 vehicles.

According to the SEC, Musk violated his October 2018 settlement agreement by sending that tweet without first seeking approval from Tesla's lawyers.

It also said the outlook contrasted with guidance that Tesla had given on Jan. 30 that it would deliver about 400,000 vehicles in 2019.

The settlement resolved an SEC lawsuit over another Twitter post in which Musk said he had 'funding secured' to take his Palo Alto, California-based company private at $420 per share.

Musk agreed to step down as Tesla's chairman, and both he and Tesla agreed to pay $20 million civil fines.

Four hours after his Feb. 19 tweet, Musk corrected himself, saying annualized production would probably be around 500,000 by year end, with full-year deliveries totaling 400,000.

Bradley Bondi, a lawyer for Tesla, had told the SEC in a Feb. 22 letter that Musk thought the substance of his first tweet had been 'appropriately vetted, pre-approved, and publicly disseminated.'

It is not clear what punishment the SEC will seek.

The regulator could seek a higher fine, further restrictions on Musk's activities, or removal of him from Tesla's board.

Alternatively, it could seek to ban Musk from being a public company officer, which would force him to step down as Tesla's chief executive.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
