«Breaking News» I will not be the 'person who re-elects Donald Trump,' Howard Schultz vows

Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz vowed he will not be the person who reelects President Donald Trump and said he must be doing something right if Democrats are so outraged at the thought of him making an independent bid in 2020.

I will 'never put myself in a position where I would be the person who re-elects Donald Trump, but that is not what I believe today,' he told CNN on Wednesday.

And when asked his thoughts on President Trump, Schultz replied: 'Despicable.'

The former Starbucks magnet has been weighing an independent bid in 2020 as he promotes his new book 'From the Ground Up: A Journey to Reimagine the Promise of America.'

His threat to run outside of the party system have united Democrats: against him.

They fear such a move would result in Trump reelected to a third term. Third-party contenders tend to peel votes away from major-party candidates, splitting the support from one side in a way that benefits the other.

'I've talked to six dozen Democrats, and the overwhelming sentiment is that he will be pushed out by this incredible wave of disgust and disdain rolling his way,' a party operative told Axios.

'The bottom line is: Nobody thinks this is sustainable,' the person said.

And Jim Messina, who was President Barack Obama's 2012 campaign manager, said Schultz could 'seriously damage' Democrats' ability to defeat Trump.

'He can't win, and he could seriously damage our ability to beat Donald Trump. He should either run as a Democrat, or spend his time and money doing something that won't ruin the world,' he said.

Schultz, 56, down played talk Democrats will push him out.

'I must be doing something right to create so much interests and backlash from the Democratic Party,' he said Wednesday on 'Morning Joe.'

'I mean, some of it is a surprise, but I think we expected to see some of the level of vitriol, but not to the extent it's been,' the billionaire businessman added.

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg, who weighed an independent bid in 2016 but ultimately did not run, fired a warning shot at Schultz on Monday.

'In 2020, the great likelihood is that an independent would just split the anti-Trump vote and end up re-electing the President. That's a risk I refused to run in 2016 and we can't afford to run it now,' he said in a statement.

'We must remain united, and we must not allow any candidate to divide or fracture us. The stakes couldn't be higher,' said Bloomberg, who is considering running for the Democratic nomination in 2020.

Schultz said he believes Bloomberg probably regrets not running in as independent in the last presidential campaign.

'I respect Mike Bloomberg, but he's not the proxy for what's doing to going to happen in 2020. And if he would have run in 2016, he might be the president today. He probably regrets that,' he told MSNBC.

Schultz, a former Democrat who's donated thousands to the party, said his candidacy would be one that would appeal to centrists disenfranchised by the left and the right.

'What if Republicans and Democrats, lifelong, are looking for a home. They're not going to vote for left wing Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris candidate. They don't want to re-elect Donald Trump. But what if there's a new person?,' he argued.

He said he left the Democratic Party because its become too liberal.

'I would have to be disingenuous to run as a Democrat because I do not believe in what the Democratic Party stand for,' he said on MSNBC.

And he told CNN he would consider a woman or a Republican as a running mates if he ultimately tosses his hat into the ring.

'I think it's the most important thing to do is to have the highest qualified person and if that's a woman that would be wonderful,' he said. 'But I haven't thought about it.'

Asked if he would consider a Republican, Schultz responded: 'I think that would be interesting and certainly demonstrate a centrist position, which I believe in.'

After grilling him on his desire to be in the Oval Office, MSNBC host Mika Brzezinksi changed to a different line of questioning.

'How much does an 18 ounce box of Cheerios cost?,' she asked.

'I don't know. I don't eat Cheerios,' Schultz replied.

He added: 'Ask me anything you want. I don't eat Cheerios, I'm sorry.'

'It's $4,' Brzezinksi noted.

'That's a lot,' Schultz said.

Brzezinksi urged him to give them a try.

'You need to try Cheerios. I love Cheerios,' she said.

'Okay,' Schultz said.

'They're really good,' she told him.

'I'm a yogurt guy,' Schultz replied.

Schultz has caused tumult within the Democratic Party since Sunday, when he said on '60 Minutes' that his frustration with America's two-party political system has him 'seriously thinking of running for president' as an independent.

'I will run as a centrist independent outside of the two-party system,' he said, speaking in what-if terms.

'We're living at a most fragile time,' Schultz said. 'Not only the fact that this president is not qualified to be the president, but also the fact that both parties are consistently not doing what's necessary on behalf of the American people and are engaged every single day in revenge politics.'

President Trump fired off a tweet on Monday seemingly designed to bait Schultz into committing to a presidential campaign.

He seized on Schultz's acknowledgement on '60 Minutes' that he's 'not the smartest person in the room' and has succeeded by surrounding himself with talented advisers.

'Howard Schultz doesn't have the 'guts' to run for President! Watched him on @60Minutes last night and I agree with him that he is not the 'smartest person'.'

'Besides, America already has that!' Trump bragged. 'I only hope that Starbucks is still paying me their rent in Trump Tower!'

I will ‘never put myself in a position where I would be ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
