«Breaking News» Homeland Security DENIES hundreds of TSA workers calling in sick amid shutdown despite union claim

The Department of Homeland Security denied hundreds of Transport Security Administration staff are calling in sick during the government shutdown, claiming on Friday that despite a union warning, 'security effectiveness will not be compromised and performance standards will not change'.

A DHS spokesperson lashed out on a personal Twitter account, following an earlier report the non-payment of some 800,000 government employees could harshly effect travelers during the tough period due to the TSA being affected.

Alleging 'fake news' had 'grossly misrepresented' the figures related to the air travel industry, Tyler Q. Houlton denied that it was creating a vulnerability and less workers strive to do more than usual.

He posted online: 'Security operations at airports have not been impacted by a non-existent sick out.'

His angry response was followed by an official statement from the TSA which admitted more workers than usual were quoting illness when taking days off, but appeared to put it down the holiday season.

'Call outs began over the Holiday period and have increased, but are causing minimal impact given there are 51,739 employees supporting the screening process,' the tweet said. 'TSA is grateful to the agents who show up to work, remain focused on the mission and respectful to the traveling public as they continue the important work necessary to secure the nation's transportation systems.'

With many travelers expecting delays due to the shutdown, TSA did add a disclaimer that wait times will be affected depending on the number of call outs.

They shifted away from the negative attention by boasting about the impressive service that offered on Thursday, just three days into the New Year.

'To date, however, screening wait times remain well within TSA standards. Yesterday, TSA screened over 2.2 million passengers,' the statement continued. 'Overall, 99.8 percent waited less than 30 minutes.'

Their claim service hadn't been affected contrasted the idea put forward by employee union officials who were quoted by the New York Times as saying more than 150 people had called in to say they would be absent from work on Friday at New York's John F Kennedy Airport alone.

CNN said morning shift workers had to cover extra hours for an approximate 170 missing co-workers per week, as the shutdown enters its third week.

President Donald Trump has said most federal employees losing out on wages were Democrats.

With a 4 percent increase in air passengers over the past few years, CNN reported that a veteran TSA official warned it may not all be positive if lines aren't getting longer.

The source said: 'If you're not seeing long wait times at airports, there's something on the security side they're not doing.'

Agency and union officials told CNN that since the shutdown began December 22, an increased number of sick days was taking its toll on security at four US airports at least.

Some absences are thought to be in protest against the shutdown but not organized by unions. However, others are simply parents struggling to feed their families who have found temporary alternative ways to earn, or who have been forced to stay home because they can't afford to pay for child care costs since they've been told to work unpaid.

'This will definitely affect the flying public who we (are) sworn to protect,' Hydrick Thomas, president of the national TSA employee union, told CNN.

The publication said whereas 25 to 30 TSA staff are absent from a typical shift, the numbers at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport had shot up by 200-300 percent.

Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham airports in North Carolina had a 10 percent increase in absences according to union president Mac Johnson, and numbers across the country were predicted to get worse when employees notice the difference on payday.

It's not only baggage and individual screenings that have been allegedly compromised, The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists Union warned 'aviation safety inspectors at the FAA will not be providing oversight of commercial and general aviation aircraft, pilots, flight instructors, and domestic and foreign repair stations'.

It includes investigations into aviation incidents.

'This staffing crisis is negatively affecting the National Airspace System, and the shutdown almost certainly will make a bad situation worse,' National Air Traffic Controllers Association President Paul Rinaldi said in a statement.

The exact amount can not say because there are many nuances. It will be necessary to build a small laboratory with certain parameters. To all interested persons please write on an email angocman@gmail.com . It is the scientific project and I do not know whether it is possible to earn on it. The probability of success of the project is approximately 60%. That will be very interesting.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
