A British businessman who was found dead in St Lucia three days ago had 'apparent wounds' and may have been stabbed, detectives believe.
Robert Hathaway was found lying in a pool of blood by a neighbour at his residence in Piat, Grand Riviere, where he had lived for 18 years.
Police in St Lucia, who have launched a murder probe, said the 66-year-old marina owner had visible injuries but said a post-mortem was yet to take place.
A source told the local website St Lucia News Online that the expat may have been stabbed or beaten to death.

Mr Hathaway (pictured with a woman believed to be his wife) was a longtime resident of St Lucia island

British businessman Robert Hathaway was reportedly discovered covered in blood at his home in St Lucia on Sunday afternoon
A spokesman for the detective who is leading the investigation said:' People want to know what transpired and we want to be able to tell his family and friends what transpired.
'Our investigation started the very moment the body was found. We don't know what happened to Bob Hathaway and that is what we are trying to find out.'
'It is still early days and the forensic report will be able to determine the cause of death. We have to keep an open mind as we dig deeper into this.'
Police are trying to piece together the Cambridge University graduate's last movements before his death.
'We would like to know what time he went to his house and who was the last person or persons he was with. They could hold the clue to this mystery,' police said.
The engineering graduate, who according to his website had lived on the island since 2001, was reportedly found dead by a neighbour at midday on Sunday.
A senior law enforcement officer said Mr Hathaway's body was found covered in blood at his home.
A Foreign Office spokesman told MailOnline on Monday: 'Our staff are supporting the family of a British man following his death in St Lucia, and are in contact with the St Lucian police.'

According to his Facebook profile, the victim was originally from Codford Saint Peter, Wiltshire. Pictured: the woman believed to be his wife

Mr Hathaway ran a marine engineering consultancy firm on the island of St Lucia in the Grande Riviere, Gros Islet

He posted a photograph of himself with a woman, believed to be his wife, to social media on January 1 (left). Police have launched a murder probe after he was found dead
His business website says he studied engineering at the University of Cambridge before going on to a career in local government.
He worked for Haringey Council as a social worker in the 1970s before later working for a yacht building and repair company in Southampton.
It says he sailed to St Lucia in 2001 and bought land in Marigot Bay, going on to found his business five years later.
A CV posted on the site gave his marital status as divorced and says he was vice-president of the Caribbean Marine Association.
His Facebook page says he was originally from the village of Codford St Peter in Wiltshire.
Keats Compton, president of the Marine Industries Association of Saint Lucia and a close friend of Mr Hathaway, said: 'It's really horrific.
'Apart from anything else, Bob was a pal of mine. He was on the executive committee of the (Marine Industries) Association and he was an integral part of it.
'I'm also concerned because the yachting fraternity is very close-knit, and the fact that this kind of thing can happen - if it's not reported properly it can do the industry quite a lot of damage.'

The 68-year-old's death has been recorded as the island's first homicide for the year, police confirmed

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
