«Breaking News» Woman almost married a con-man who said he planned the bin Laden raid

A journalist has opened up about how her doctor fiancee lied to her about being a decorated military hero who had helped thwart a terror attack on New York City and planned the raid on Osama Bin Laden's compound.

Abby Ellin, now in her late 40s, went on her first date with the unnamed US Navy doctor in 2010, and he began telling jaw-dropping tales of heroic covert missions.

In addition to taking down Bin Laden and fighting terrorism, he claimed he had met his ex-wife while rescuing her during a hostage situation in Iran in the 1990s, and 'saved the grandson of one of the world’s wealthiest men from an attempted kidnapping'.

It would take years before Ms Ellin found out the devastating truth - or rather lack thereof.

Liar, liar: Abby Ellin's fiance told her jaw-dropping tales of covert missions for the CIA and being the medical director for Guantanamo - and at first she believed him

Ms Ellin, who has now written a book about her experience called Duped, first encountered the man in 2006 when she needed a medical expert for an article, and called him at his private practice in Los Angeles.

Over the coming years their contact went from sporadic emails to long phonecalls and finally they met for a date in Manhattan in February 2010.

By then, the man had joined the Navy after divorcing his wife, and he told Ms Ellin he had spent summer 2009 as a medical director at Guantanamo Bay. He also spoke of cover CIA missions saying he had a vault full of medals.

'It’s easy to adore someone who adores you,' Ms Ellin writes for Marie Claire.

'We saw each other every ten days or so, sharing romantic weekends in D.C., Maine, and Manhattan.

'He always bought first-class plane tickets and put us up at five-star hotels.

'He sent love letters and adoring notes. He was good and decent and exciting and noble.'

Six months after their first date, the man, then aged 58, proposed and they began planning a November wedding and moved in together in Washington D.C., where she studied for a masters degree and he worked at the Pentagon.

However, Ms Ellin writes, she became increasingly paranoid.

She found out the man had lied to his children from his first marriage about their engagement, and he refused to take her to work events.

She spent New Year's Eve that year without him as he had a 'covert mission'.

Finally, she writes in a 2015 article for Psychology Today, she witnessed him lie to her parents about enjoying a dinner, and concluded that: 'if he could lie so convincingly about something so inconsequential, then he could be lying about anything'.

She left him.

More than a year after their breakup, in March 2012 she was contacted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service who informed her that her ex-fiancee had been forging prescriptions for everything from Vicodin to Viagra.

As he was jailed for 18 months, Ms Ellin discovered that he had not one but two ex-wives and had never been working for the CIA or been a Navy Seal.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
