As President Trump gave his address in the Oval Office Tuesday night, viewers around the nation tuned in to watch the president reiterate his demand for a border wall.
Bar patrons in California to pedestrians on the street in New York flocked to the television to listen to Trump stop short of declaring a national emergency on America's southern border.
The viewership even crossed the border Trump spoke of, as Central Americans from the migrant caravan watched on from their shelter in Tijuana, Mexico.
Mixed reactions from the public and lawmakers have started to flood in as both Democrats and Republicans continue to play the blame game over the government shutdown, entering its 19th day.

President Donald Trump spoke for nine minnutes from the Oval Office of the White House on Tuesday, shaming congressional Democrats as he blamed them for bloodshed caused by illegal immigrants
Trump's address has been received differently among one family who gathered to watch it in South Texas, a short distance from the US-Mexico border.
Inside a home in Edinburg, 67-year-old Mexican-American Sylvia Ramirez took notes during Trump's speech and the response by Democratic leaders. Afterward, Ramirez said, she thought Trump had expressed compassion. But, she added, 'I wish he'd meant it.'
Ramirez is a Democrat who opposes a border wall.
Her 70-year-old cousin Rita Jackson-Vega supports the president and said afterward that she believed Trump was trying his best.
While many people in South Texas oppose Trump's immigration priorities, Jackson-Vega said some action was necessary to curb illegal immigration, though she also believes a wall wouldn't stop families from trying to enter the United States.
Trump said in his speech that there is a 'growing humanitarian and security crisis' at the southern border, although crossings have fallen in recent years. He said illegal immigration strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says Trump's proposal to increase border security through physical barriers 'suits the reality on the ground' along the US-Mexico border.
Speaking after Trump's address Tuesday, the Kentucky Republican said Trump's plan 'simply builds on earlier legislation' that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats supported in the past.
McConnell blamed the partial government shutdown on 'Democrats' refusal to negotiate' because of 'partisan spite for the president.'
McConnell urged Democrats to 'come to the table and help deliver a solution' to reopen the government.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (right) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer delivered the Democrats' response after Trump spoke, framing the conflict as Trump's personal, uninformed crusade as they insisted they won't bend and agree to his terms
Chuck Schumer says President Donald Trump should reopen government while talks continue over the US-Mexico border wall because there's 'no excuse for hurting millions of Americans.'
Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered the Democratic response immediately following to Trump's Oval Office address Tuesday.
Schumer says Democrats and Republicans agree on the need to secure borders. But the New York Democrat says the 'symbol of America should be the Statue of Liberty, not a 30-foot wall.'
House Speaker Pelosi says the president has 'chosen fear' in making the case to the American people for the border wall and Democrats 'want to start with the facts.'
She noted that the House passed legislation to reopen government on the first day of the new Congress. But Trump rejects that legislation because it doesn't have funding for his border wall.
She says: 'The fact is: President Trump must stop holding the American people hostage, must stop manufacturing a crisis, and must reopen the government.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
