«Breaking News» Tennis coach finds 23-year-old invitations he forgot to send to Andy and Jamie Murray

A tennis coach has found letters addressed to future Wimbledon champions Andy and Jamie Murray among his garage clutter, 23 years after forgetting to send them.

The letters, which invited tennis players at a leisure centre to a competition against Derbyshire in 1996, were addressed to the brothers who were then aged just eight and nine.

It told the boys to 'report to referee Judy Murray' and asked them to make a contribution of £3 towards the match tea.

Emily Lauder, an accountant from Glasgow, revealed the never-sent invitations in a tweet on Sunday.

She captioned the tweet: 'My dad found these clearing out the garage. Poor boys have been waiting years to get this invite.'

Emily then tagged the players and their mother, Judy.

The letter, dated January 31, was titled 'David Lloyd Club -V- Derbyshire' and read: 'Dear Player, You have been selected to represent the David Lloyd club in a boys' match against Derbyshire on Saturday 24 February 1996.

'The match will be played on courts 8, 9, 10 from 10.30am to 4:30pm and you are asked to report to referee Judy Murray at the time indicated beside your name.

'The David Lloyd Club will provide the courts, and the balls for the match but you are asked to make a contribution of £3 towards the match tea. Please bring this with you on the 24 February.'

The letter then listed the players and provided them with the time they were expected to play at.

Jamie Murray was supposed to play at 10am followed by Andy who was expected to play at 11.15am.

Emily's post also included images of the white envelopes that contained the letters, one handwritten 'Andrew Murray' and the other 'Jamie Murray'.

Judy Murray commented on Emily's post, writing: 'Wow. Three of those kids went on to play Davis Cup for GB'

The letter was written by then general manager of the Renfrew David Lloyd club, which had the only indoor tennis courts in Scotland at the time.

Emily today confirmed her dad was a tennis coach at the leisure centre at the time but declined to give further details.

Andy and Jamie, aged eight and nine respectively, were both pupils at Dunblane Primary School at the time.

Judy Murray commented on Emily's post, writing: 'Wow. Three of those kids went on to play Davis Cup for GB [Great Britain]. And another was a top 10 in world junior. These were the only indoor courts in Scotland at the time.'

James Rushby, one of the Derbyshire Tennis Association players who played in the match in Derby in February 1996, commented under the post: 'Remember it well. All the Scottish lads families hosted us for the weekend.

'Great tennis. Think we edged it though.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
