Explaining why the BBC show is so important to him, Knight explained: 'Peaky is a very personal thing for me because it’s based on stories that I was told as a kid by my parents. At the very beginning, I tried to have other writers involved but it just didn’t work.

'There’s no writers room, or any other writer involved. I write everything from beginning to end. Maybe it’s just me not being able to let go of something, especially with Peaky. I can’t let it go.'

Knight, who also co-created quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, continued: 'I’m about to start writing season 6 now and if all the wheels fall off, or it goes horribly wrong, there’s probably people that will say something. But at this moment, it has its own logic and momentum. Right now, it feels as if the characters are just writing themselves.'

It had been rumoured Peaky Blinders' fifth series could be its last, with Deadline reporting the upcoming series will see the story of the Shelby clan 'come to a conclusion'.

However, Knight confirmed in May last year, that the gangster drama will come to a close after the seventh season.

He told Digital Spy: 'My ambition is to make it a story of a family between two wars, so always I've wanted to end it with the first air raid siren in Birmingham in 1939. It'll take three more series [to reach that point].'

It's a wrap: A post on the BBC drama's official Twitter account on January 17 confirmed that filming fro series would conclude the next day, with the post accompanied by a moody photo of show star Cillian Murphy and director Anthony Byrne

Otto Bathurst, who directed three episodes in season one of the gritty gangster drama, said Knight is currently writing a script.

With a flurry of excited memes, another follower wrote: 'I'm ready for it, can't come soon enough!'

While the drama is set in Birmingham, filming has taken place across Manchester in recent months.

Series five is set in the aftermath of the 1929 Wall Street Crash, with creator Steven Knight revealing: 'The story of the Peaky Blinders and of the Shelby family gets woven into the political fabric of Britain and Europe as the 1920s end and the thirties begin.

'Tommy Shelby faces the darkest force he has ever faced and his struggle is as relevant today as it was then.'

Peaky Blinders fans were given their first look at season five in a BBC drama trailer which aired on New Year's Day ahead of an expected Spring 2019 air date.

While the one minute clip featured snippets of Killing Eve, Line of Duty and Luther, it was the brief but explosive tease of Peaky Blinders which has really got fans talking.

Cillian Murphy, who plays Thomas Shelby in the BBC One series, is seen in a number of blink and you'll miss it scenes in the trailer, including the aftermath of what looks like a deadly car explosion.

Seconds after a shot of a burning car is shown, Tommy is seen looking distraught as he appears to cradle a body in his arms.

Annie Harrison-Baxter will produce the new series, which sees the welcome return of a host of familiar characters following a vicious gang war.

There will also be some new faces joining the cast, including Sam Claflin and Split actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

The drama will also make the big move from BBC Two to BBC One following the huge success of the first four series.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
