Roughly 110 million people across the U.S. are facing the most deadly freeze in at least two decades as a polar vortex of extreme cold spins across the country after a powerful snowstorm pounded the Midwest.
Two-thirds of the country will be a frozen ice box on Tuesday as the record-breaking temperatures crawl across the Midwest and forecasters warn that the frigid weather could be life-threatening.
The subzero temperatures are already hitting but the worst is still yet to come on Wednesday where wind chill could bring temperatures as low as negative 50 in some parts.
'You're talking about frostbite and hypothermia issues very quickly, like in a matter of minutes, maybe seconds,' said Brian Hurley, a meteorologist with the Weather Prediction Center.

Wind chills in northern Illinois could fall to negative 55 degrees. It could be the coldest day ever recorded in Chicago on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Minnesota temperatures could hit minus 30 degrees with a wind chill of negative 60.

The potentially record-breaking low temperature forecast in Milwaukee is negative 28 degrees, with a wind chill as low as negative 50. The current record of minus 26 degrees was set in 1996.
'That's 40 degrees below normal,' Hurley said.
One-to-two feet of snow was forecast in Wisconsin and six inches in Illinois, according to the National Weather Service.
Blizzard conditions were predicted across parts of the western Ohio Valley and snow was expected through Wednesday from the Great Lakes region into New England.
Even the Deep South, including Alabama and Mississippi, could see snow. Parts of north and central Georgia are expecting about 2 inches of snow or more in the coming days, along with freezing rain and ice-slicked highways.
States of emergency have been declared from Wisconsin and Michigan, down to Alabama and Mississippi. Cold weather advisories are also in effect across a broad swath of the central U.S., from North Dakota to Missouri and spanning into Ohio.
Air traffic in the region is affected, with more than 1,200 flights canceled and as many delayed, the flight tracking site FlightAware.com reported early Tuesday.
Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc said it would waive flight change fees for passengers affected by the winter weather in Chicago, Detroit and areas of the Upper Midwest.

Minneapolis Public Schools officials have canceled classes through Wednesday, when the region is expected to experience frigidly low temperatures not seen in a quarter century.
Chicago Public Schools have also called off classes on Wednesday because of the anticipated cold snap.
The Chicago Zoological Society said it was closing the Brookfield Zoo on Wednesday and Thursday - marking only the fourth time the zoo has closed during its 85-year history - to ensure the safety of its employees and animals.
Homeless shelters were also preparing for the onslaught of cold. The Milwaukee Rescue Mission's call volume was 'unusually high,' but officials said there should still be enough beds for those who need them.
In Minneapolis, charitable groups that operate warming places and shelters were expanding hours and capacity 'as they do whenever dangerous extreme temperature events occur,' said Hennepin County Emergency Management Director Eric Waage.
He said ambulance crews were handling all outside response incidents as being potentially life-threatening.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said city agencies are making sure homeless people are in shelters or offered space in warming buses. He also urged residents to check on their neighbors and take safety precautions.
The unusually frigid weather is attributed to a sudden warming far above the North Pole.
Forecasters said the polar vortex is a mass of freezing air that normally spins around the North Pole, but has slipped southward and swirled into the United States.

WHAT IS THE POLAR VORTEX?
The polar vortex is an atmospheric circulation pattern that sits high above the poles, in a layer of the atmosphere called the stratosphere.
This structure can weaken as a result of abnormal warming in the poles, causing it to split off into smaller ‘sister vortices’ that may travel outside of their typical range.
The split higher up in the atmosphere could eventually cause a similar phenomenon to ‘drip’ down to the troposphere – the layer of the atmosphere closest to the surface, where most of our weather takes place.
A split in the polar vortex can give rise to both sudden and delayed effects, much of which involves declining temperatures and extreme winter weather in the Eastern US along with Northern and Western Europe.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
