A Michigan teen faces up to five years in prison for taking a police SUV on a New Years Day joyride.

Alyssa Marie Martinez, 17, is charged with two felonies that include unlawful driving of an automobile and malicious destruction of property for vandalizing another vehicle before taking the police cruiser for a spin.

Grand Rapids police say Martinez was with several other people when a fight broken out around 4.30am.

The group fled in a minivan that was stopped by officers a block away.

The driver, 19-year-old man Gidalthi Reyes-Macias, was chased by officers on foot, caught nearby and charged with aggravated assault, driving with a suspended license and failure to obey.

Martinez then hopped into the unattended police SUV and drove away.

Grand Rapids police said in a news release that Martinez is seen 'getting into the cruiser and driving away with the overhead lights still activated.

'As she pulls away, she collided into the minivan, causing significant damage to both, yet leaving the cruiser still drivable.'

Martinez ran several stop signs and exceeded 50mph before stopping the SUV, the news release says.

Officers used GPS to locate the cruiser a few minutes later and spotted Martinez walking nearby.

Martinez made her first appearance in court Wednesday in Grand Rapids where she was arraigned on a misdemeanor count of resisting police, in addition to her two felony charges.

During her arraignment,  Martinez offered to explain what happened but Grand Rapids District Court Judge Jennifer Faber stopped her and advised that she speak with her attorney, according to WZZN.

Judge Faber set her bond at $20,000 and ordered that if she is released on bond, Martinez stick to an 8pm to 7am curfew.

The teen, who just turned 17 last month, has run into trouble with the law and is currently on probation for two juvenile court cases, including misdemeanor assault and battery.

She explained to the judge she is not attending school, but has a job at a fast food restaurant.

The exact amount can not say because there are many nuances. It will be necessary to build a small laboratory with certain parameters. To all interested persons please write on an email angocman@gmail.com . It is the scientific project and I do not know whether it is possible to earn on it. The probability of success of the project is approximately 60%. That will be very interesting.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
