A Florida sheriff's K9 is back on the job after he suffered a bad reaction to drugs he sniffed on a passenger leaving on a cruise ship last week.
On Friday, Port Canaveral in Cocoa Beach, Florida, posted a video of Jake the three-year-old golden retriever's return to work along with his handler, Deputy Scott Stewart.
'K9 Deputy Jake is back on duty at Port Canaveral, playing with his handler, Deputy Scott Stewart, and showing no ill effects from a severe reaction that the three-year-old golden retriever suffered from finding drugs on a passenger,' the seaport's Twitter account posted.
In the video Deputy Stewart lets Jake out of the police vehicle and at one point shows a shaved patch on the dog's left foreleg.
Jake's forelimb is shown where it was shaved to introduce an IV to keep his fluids up while he recovered from his drug injury
The video of Jake's return to work shows the golden retriever and his handler, Deputy Scott Stewart, getting a bit of exercise on a grassy field
'You can see right here where they had the IV hooked into his leg to keep fluids on him,' Deputy Stewart explains. 'They had to shave his hair right there.'
'He's doing really good,' he says before the scene cuts to them playing on a grassy field.
Jake began exhibiting seizure-like symptoms and lost motor control after detecting drugs on a man who was preparing to board the Holy Ship! music festival cruise in Port Canaveral on Wednesday, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
There have been dozens of drug arrests in the past two years when the electronic dance music festival cruise has left Port Canaveral, according to ClickOrlando, but the sheriff's office says this is the first time a K9 had been hurt.
Leslie Bennett, 33, of Missoula, Montana, was charged with drug possession after Jake, the police dog, became ill from sniffing the ecstasy he had hidden in his boxers
Leslie Bennett he will not be charged in Jake's injuries, according to authorities, because he not have any intent to hurt the police dog.
Deputies found even more drugs in Leslie Bennett's luggage after a search
There have been dozens of drug arrests during the boarding of the Holy Ship! cruise at Port Canaveral, but the music festival website does state a zero tolerance policy for contraband
Police spokesman Tod Goodyear said Jake was given Narcan as a precaution because deputies were unsure of what was causing the reaction.
A veterinarian determined that the dog had likely been exposed to ecstasy powder on Leslie Bennett, a 33-year-old from Missoula, Montana.
Deputies found a bag in Bennett's boxers containing the notorious party drug, possibly crushed up, and his luggage yielded amphetamine, sildenafil citrate and lorazepam in a container for Dramamine, the seasickness medicine.
He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, but ClickOrlando reports he will not be charged in Jake's injuries as he had no intention of hurting the police dog.

Narcan is an injection often given to humans after an opioid overdose to help reverse the effects, but federal agents at Port Canaveral are not issued the lifesaving medicine
Robert J MacLean, with the US Marshals Office, said a crew member on board the ship supplied deputies with Narcan, an injection often given to humans after an opioid overdose.
MacLean said that federal agents at Port Canaveral don't carry Narcan, which has been a problem because they can also be exposed to unknown substances or drugs.
For its part, Holy Ship! website does expressly warn its party-goers about what to expect in terms of security checks.
'Holy Ship! has a strict zero tolerance policy,' the port information page says. 'Every person and each piece of luggage will be inspected by dogs trained to detect explosives and contraband.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
