When it comes to shopping for a bra, it's always worth turning to the experts for their help and advice.
Not doing so can see you end up wearing a garment that's the wrong size, a problem 80 per cent of Australian women face.
According to Maddison Leach, a former bra fitter, an ill-fitting bra won't only look bad, it will also leave you feeling incredibly uncomfortable.
Writing for 9Honey, Maddison revealed her five tips to help you prevent all manner of problems including underwire digging or cup spillage.
Taking the time to be fitted by an expert can eliminate a number of problems including underwire digging, cup spillage and gaping (stock image)
1. Assume you're wearing the wrong bra size
While women will get fitted for bras in their teens, this isn't something many will carry over into adulthood.
This can mean you may believe you are a certain size, when in fact, your breasts may be larger or smaller, or your body shape have have changed over the years.
Maddison said during the time she worked a bra fitter, she dealt with many women who assured her they knew their size only to discover this was quite different once they'd been measured.
'Accepting your size might have changed since you last bought bras is the first step to getting into the perfect fit,' she advised.
2. The 'perfect' bust size doesn't exist
When shopping for a bra, you're likely to be surrounded by lingerie ads that all promote an idea of the 'perfect' bust size.
However, Maddison said this 'perfect' size doesn't exist and what you're seeing is more likely the result of padding or the model wearing a sample size.
She explained over the two years she worked for a major lingerie store selling bras, she fitted women of every shape and size.
She suggested asking an assistant for help as their training and knowledge will make it easier to choose a style and shape that's perfect for your body.
3. Get fitted every year
The benefits of being fitted correctly mean it is possible to eliminate any potential problems caused by wearing a bra that's the wrong size.
All too often bras that's aren't fitted mean the wearer can experience a range of health issues.
These can include underwires which dig into the ribs, cup spillage or gaping or straps that are too tight or too loose.
Maddison said making the process even easier is that some lingerie stores are now offering free fitting services where you don't need to take your clothes off.
She adds a bra fitting should never be a one-time event and suggests being fitted for a bra at least once a year.
Bra straps should be tight enough to allow you to slide two fingers between the strap and your skin (stock image)
4. Wear a bra correctly
There are a number of things you need to do when trying on a bra to ensure the fit is right, explained Maddison.
The first is to close the bra using the loosest hooks. This will give you room to tighten the bra as your undergarment stretches with wear.
Straps should be neither too tight or too loose. You can check this by sliding two fingers between the strap and your skin.
To ensure you have the right cup size, 'scoop' breast up and into the cup. There shouldn't be any spillage.
Underwire bras should be sitting against your ribs. Wires should also be sitting comfortably under your arms with no breast tissue spilling over the top or side.
'If you're unable to do any of these things with the bra you're wearing, it's often a sign you need to be refitted,' Maddison said.
5. Wearing a bra should never hurt you
If your bra hurts while you're wearing it, take this as a warning sign you are most likely wearing the wrong size.
Bras, said Maddison, are much like shoes in that it's the ill-fitting pairs which tend to give you the most trouble.
A bra that feels as if it is digging into you, putting any pressure on your ribs or making it hard to breathe doesn't fit your body shape, and you should replace.
'While some bras can be uncomfortable due to poor construction (e.g. itchy lace) if all your bras are uncomfortable it's probably a size issue,' she said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
