«Breaking News» Dental expert shares secret method on how to tell which patients don't brush their teeth

An oral hygienist has unveiled how dentists know whether their patients are regularly brushing their teeth or not, and all it takes is a quick glance rather than a detailed examination. 

Boitumelo Koopedi, who studied Dentistry & Dental Hygiene at the University of Pretoria, South Africa shared her wisdom with Q&A site Quora.

The expert shared two images of patients' mouths - one showing two rows of perfectly white teeth, and the other with a set that looked discoloured and uneven.

Boitumelo revealed that she could easily tell that one person regularly brushes and flosses their teeth, while another is guilty of poor dental hygiene. 

She explained that the mouth with the yellow teeth is actually healthier because they gums were a pale shade or pink, while the bright smile was surrounded by red, inflamed gums - indicating disease.

Although the bright white teeth appear to be cleaner, the Quora user drew attention to the red coloration of the gums.

'If you brush properly in a way to interrupt plaque formation, your gums will have a light pink hue on the junction where the gum and the teeth meet (same for flossing between teeth), which is a good sign of health, no inflammation,' she said. 

'But if you do not interrupt plaque formation for an extended period, it causes inflammation of the gums. 

'During the inflammatory process of the gum area(s) affected, blood rushes to the areas and causes a red coloration of the gum. This inflammation is called gingivitis.   

Although these teeth are perfectly white and straight, the redness of the gums indicates the patient is suffering from gingivitis, which can be caused by not brushing and flossing properly

'One cannot simply brush/floss gingivitis away in a few hours, depending on how severe it is, it may take a few days to weeks before visible symptoms disappear.

'So your teeth could sparkle like the mother pearl, but your gums have all the tell tale signs of poor oral hygiene practices.' 

The expert explained patients who try to cover up their poor oral hygiene are not alone because she sees it 'all the time'. 

But the Quora user insisted people who are guilty of trying to 'hide' the evidence are always easily caught out during their appointments.  

'I am an oral hygienist and I see this all the time,' she wrote.   

'Before coming for their bi-annual cleaning, some patients who do not brush their teeth correctly or regularly, attempt to “hide” evidence of such by brushing their teeth three minutes before an appointment or for 5–10 minutes before they leave their homes headed to the appointment.'

She explained that the gums always indicate who brushes their teeth regularly and who is trying to make up for poor oral hygiene.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
