«Breaking News» Dancing On Ice RETURNS: Gemma Collins NEARLY takes a tumble after impromptu hair flip during launch

The second rebooted season of Dancing On Ice returned to screens on Sunday night, with TOWIE icon Gemma Collins making her much-anticipated debut - even performing the splits!

But she was met with scathing critique from judge Jason Gardiner, who ended up coming to blows with Gemma's pro partner Matt Evers over it.

Jason called Gemma's routine 'uncomfortable to watch' and likened it to 'a French & Saunders parody'.

'Did you ever think you weren't going to do this?' asked Holly and Phil. 'Yeah, two minutes before I came out,' Gemma replied

Before Gemma, 37, took to the rink, friend Jonathan Cheban - who had traveled from Los Angeles to watch from the audience - told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: 'I wouldn't miss this, are you kidding me?'

Gemma's boyfriend and fellow-TOWIE star James 'Arg' Argent - who was also watching, decked out in a swish tuxedo - added: 'I'm so nervous for her! It's the moment we've all been waiting for. Gemma, we love you, we're proud of you!'

Gemma's VT saw her meeting pro Matt for the first time, whose reaction to seeing her was: 'Oh my f**king God!'

Telling him what she wanted from her first skate, Gemma said: 'I want the lot. Splits and fireworks!' Matt then informed her that the show was live, to which a shocked Gemma replied: 'I thought it was a pre-record!'

She and Matt danced to Beyoncé's Crazy In Love, and scored 16/40, receiving 4.5 from all judges apart from Jason who gave her a 2.5.

Gemma's routine went off without a hitch, but improvised a hair flip at the end and nearly lost balance.

'Did you ever think you weren't going to do this?' asked Holly and Phil. 'Yeah, two minutes before I came out,' Gemma replied.

Matt praised Gemma, saying: 'She gets hate and trolls online and she's never exercised but she absolutely smashed it. She committed to it.'

Judge Ashley Banjo told Gemma: 'You're a ledge! It doesn't matter what they say! You're here, did it!'

But Jason slammed her, saying: 'You talk a big talk but you don't back it up. It was like a French & Saunders parody. Uncomfortable to watch.'

This sparked a tiff between him and Matt, with the pro asking the audience whether it was uncomfortable, receiving a resounding cheer from them. Holly pointed out that Gemma 'did the splits', but Jason bitterly insisted that 'they weren't the splits'.

'I enjoyed it. I was impressed by your flexibility,' Jane Torvill said, as Christopher Dean added: 'You've silenced a lot of people. And your bravado will take you through.'

Gemma lived to skate another day, with Mark Little - of Neighbours fame - and Brianne Del-court receiving the least votes. They will face next week's skate off.

The pair danced to Land Down Under, in homage to his Aussie roots and received the lowest score of the night, having been branded 'an out-of-control mess' by Jason, with Ashley telling Mark 'you need to master the basics'.

The show kicked off with Holly and Phil being reunited as a presenting duo after Holly's stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! at the end of last year.

Gemma and Mark joined the likes of Jane Danson and Didi Conn as they hit the ice for the first time for the live 2019 premiere episode.

Jane was the first to dance - and judge Jason didn't hang about when it came to doling out his trademark bitchy critique, giving her a paltry score of 3 and Didi a 2.5.

Jane - a long-standing star of Corrie - aptly danced to On The Street Where You Live made famous by musical My Fair Lady, with her pro partner Sylvain Longchambon.

But despite kicking off the show with some highly impressive Cinderella lifts, rotations and 'no wobbles on the cobbles', Jason was quick to dish out a nasty comment or two to kick off proceedings.

'If you did that on my street I'd probably call the council,' he said, cashing in immediately on the Corrie references. 'I want to finesse you. There was no fluidity, no emotion, and your thoracic spine is very tight.'

When no-one knew what he was talking about he brashly spat: 'Google it, I don't have time to explain.'

He then told Sylvain he was 'pulling Jane around like a shopping trolley'.

Her total scores came in at 20.5/40, with a 5.5 from Ashley and a 6 each from Torvill and Dean.

An emotional Didi was next, famed for her iconic role as Frenchie  in Grease, who called the whole experience 'magical'.

Yet, despite being the oldest-ever contestant at 67-years-old, Jason slammed her by awarding her 2.5. The others gave her each a 4, totaling at 14.5/40.

Fan-boying: Christopher couldn't help but gush over Didi, planting a kiss on the Hollywood star's hand - despite awarding her just a 4

Jason said he was 'disappointed' by her having 'dined out' on dancing thanks to Grease for her entire career, after skating to We Go Together from the 1978 classic with pro Łukasz Różycki.

X-Factor's 2016 runner-up Saara Aalto was next, putting on an impressive show to Lady Gaga's Born This Way with Hamish Gaman, followed by ex-Strictly Come Dancing pro James Jordan who was cheered on by his wife Ola from the stands.

He cleaned up after (somewhat ironically) dancing to I Can't Dance with pro Alexandra Schauman.

He received 30.5/40 overall.

After this, the six celebs set to perform next week took a turn around the ice; and Jason's nasty commentary was back.

He told Richard Blackwood, Wes Nelson, Saira Khan, Melody Thornton, Brian McFadden and Ryan Sidebottom that they needed to perfect their finesse before next week - particularly pinpointing Brian, who has declared war against pal James when it comes to this year's competition.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
