But even the most stylish of septuagenarians needs a little help now and again. And as Dame Helen Mirren hosted a musical extravaganza in the US at the weekend she gave us a less-than-glamorous glimpse of her favoured support: a garment looking distinctly like a pair of flesh-toned support pants.

As the 73-year-old sashayed across the stage in her dazzling, blue sequinned gown, the above-knee split in the dress revealed a shapely pair of pins – and a rather less graceful glimpse of her figure-hugging shapewear.

The actress is known to be a fan of Spanx – a firm favourite in underwear drawers across Britain – designed to help slim down thighs, nip in waists and smooth out stomachs.

Though whether the actress was wearing Spanx on this occasion – the prestigious 162nd Academy of Music Anniversary Concert and Ball in Philadelphia – is open to debate as the cycle-short length garment appears to have a hem, which current Spanx lines do not have.

As many stars have learned to their cost, shapewear isn’t always as ‘secret’ as the wearer might hope. Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and even Zara Tindall have all unwittingly given photographers a glimpse of their not-so-invisible support garments.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
