«Breaking News» Brave corner shop owner in his 60s fights off a knife-wielding robber with his bare hands

A fearless shopkeeper in east China has been hailed a hero for tackling and successfully chasing away a knife-wielding robber.

The brave man in his 60s, surnamed Xu, was sitting behind the counter when the suspect walked in the store and pulled out a large blade on him last Tuesday in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province. 

Unfazed, Xu started wrestling with the robber with his bare hands and was eventually able to chase him out of the corner shop.

Xu was left with a cut on his finger after the struggle and police have detained the suspect, according to Chinese reports. 

Surveillance footage of the dramatic incident shows the robber entering the shop and drawing a large knife at Xu. 

'I was sitting on a couch and playing on my cell phone when the man walked in,' Xu told video news site Pear.  

'I stood up and started to push him out of the shop with all my strength,' the shop owner said

'He held up a knife and yelled "This is a robbery". I actually thought he was joking and didn't pay attention to him.' 

But then the suspect pointed the knife at Xu's neck and started to push him around. 

'I then stood up and started to push him out of the shop with all my strength,' the brave shop owner said. 

The pair struggled for nearly 20 seconds before Xu reached for a metal pipe for self-defence. The robber then left the shop, empty-handed.

Xu told reporters that he ran after the man for more than 100 metres (110 yards) but stopped after he ran out of breath.   

Police have arrested the man and are conducting further investigations.    

Xu's actions were commended on social media. 

'What a brave man! Thank goodness he wasn't hurt,' one user commented.  

'I'd be scared to death if it were me getting robbed!' another user said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
