A seven-year-old Maryland girl is in a coma after she was hit by a pickup truck that sped past a school bus with flashing lights and a stop sign, police said.
Skyla Shirriel was exiting her school bus around 3.45pm following a day at TC Elementary in Bryantown on Tuesday.
She was then struck by a 35-year-old woman right in front of her home.
Skyla was airlifted to a nearby hospital following the crash and placed in a medically-induced coma on Tuesday night and is fighting for her life.
The driver's name has not been released. Police said the woman stayed at the scene and waited for officers to arrive.

Authorities are investigating the incident but said it is 'clear' that the driver did not stop for the stop sign and blinking lights on the school bus.
Mike Wathen, who is housemates with Skyl and her father, was told by a witness that his children were almost hit by the driver as well.

Police said twins Xavier and Mason Ingle, six, and their sister Alivia Stahl were boarding their school bus, which had its stop-arm activated, when Alyssa Shepherd slammed into them.
Alivia died while trying to shield her brothers.
Shepherd was charged with three counts of reckless homicide and one count of passing a school bus and resulting in bodily injury.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
