«Breaking News» Simon Cowell reveals plans to bring back Celebrity X Factor... after calling the series 'pointless'

He previously called the one-off series of Celebrity X Factor 'pointless' and insisted he would never want to do it again.

Yet it seems Simon Cowell has had a change of heart, with the 59-year-old music mogul confessing that he plans to bring the series back.

Speaking to The Sun's TV mag, he admitted: 'Celebrity X Factor wasn't one of my favourite shows, but for some reason I do actually want to do it again.

Revealing that he already has one contestant in mind, he continued: 'I'm hoping we're going to do this soon. I'd like to mentor David Walliams!'

The X Factor: Battle of the Stars aired for one week-long series in 2006 and saw the likes of David Beckham's former PA Rebecca Loos, Gillian McKeith and Nikki Sanderson compete for the title.

The series was won by former EastEnders actress Lucy Benjamin, and saw Simon, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh act as judges, whilst Kate Thornton hosted.

Simon is currently being kept busy by the current series of The X Factor, with the final airing this weekend.

Yet the star has made a big shake-up ahead of the final shows, with neither Dalton Harris, Scarlett Lee or Anthony Russell set to be eliminated from the show on Saturday night, meaning they will all get to perform on Sunday too.

Speaking to The Sun, a source explained: 'Simon thinks this is one of the strongest finals ever and has decided they've all earned the opportunity to shine.

'Plus, all three being able to perform their winner's single will improve the odds of the public choosing a song that will trouble the charts.

They added: 'Simon can't wait to see them all battle it out until the very end.'

On Saturday night, the three finalists will perform duets, with Dalton singing alongside Emeli Sandé, Anthony teaming up with Tom Walker, and Scarlett performing with Robbie Williams.

The trio will then duet with a different star on Sunday and that song will be released as their debut winner's single.

Scarlett will sing with X Factor 2006 champion Leona Lewis, while Dalton will sing with 2013 winner James Arthur and Anthony with Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson.

Last year saw a surprise switch on the classic winner's single, as group Rak-Su released their original track Dimelo, which saw them collaborate with Naughty Boy and Wyclef Jean.

It proved to be a big hit reaching number two in the charts, the highest an X Factor song has been since 2014 with Ben Haenow's Something I Need, which made it to the coveted number one spot.

The X Factor final looks to be another sensational affair, with stars such as Ellie Goulding and Chic, as well as Robbie reuniting with his Take That bandmates for a special performance ahead of the group's 30th anniversary.

X Factor Final airs on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December at 7:30pm on ITV.

Speaking to The Su...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
