Christmas Hallmark movies have become a massive phenomenon, dominating cable ratings with an average of six million viewers per film.
DailyMail.com talked to one of the channel's favorite writers, Nina Weinman - who has two Hallmark Christmas movies this year: Homegrown Christmas with Lori Loughlin and Pride, Prejudice And Mistletoe with Lacey Chabert, about the cultural trend.
'There is a lot of negative news and polarization, specifically on social media, and Hallmark provides a sort of comfort food for the masses,' said the Los Angeles resident. 'It's a wonderful escape, where you're never going to be blindsided. You know that you're going to feel warm and fuzzy and that in Hallmark land, happily-ever-after always exists.'
She explains it all: Christmas Hallmark movies have become a phenomenon, dominating cable with an average of six million viewers per film. DailyMail.com talked to one of the channel's favorite writers, Nina Weinman
Her new film, Homegrown Christmas, stars Loughlin - best known for Full House and Fuller House - who she can't say enough good things about.
'Yes, she's beautiful and eternally youthful, but those aren't even close to the best things about her,' said Nina.
'She is kind, collaborative, supportive, an incredible mom and a complete pro. When the producers called and asked me if I'd like to develop something with her for this Christmas, I didn't hesitate.
NEW! Homegrown Christmas airs December 8 and stars Lori Loughlin and Victor Webester
Synopsis: When forced to work together to organize a Christmas dance for the local high school, former sweethearts find themselves rediscovering what made them fall in love all those years ago
Ace: And she can't say enough good things about Loughlin, best known for Full House and Fuller House. 'Yes, she's beautiful and eternally youthful, but those aren't even close to the best things about her,' said Nina. 'She is kind, collaborative, supportive, an incredible mom and a complete pro'
'I had heard great things about her and, from our first lunch together, I knew how lucky I was that they chose me for this project. We've had a great time over the past year, putting together Homegrown Christmas and I'm thrilled with the outcome.
'She's completely hilarious and fantastic in it and the chemistry between Lori and Victor Webster is going to make everyone feel ALL the feels.'
And Lacey - best known from Party Of Five and Mean Girls - is also a fun actress to collaborate with.
'I joke with Lacey that she's the hardest working lady in show business,' said Weinman. 'She and I pitched a movie together in 2014 that ultimately didn't sell and have wanted to work together ever since.
A hit: Pride, Prejudice And Mistletoe with Lacey Chabert came out in November
'When the network called me about PRIDE, PREJUDICE and MISTLETOE, she was already attached and I was like, FINALLY! To sum up Lacey, I would say, there is a light in that girl. She is just pure kindness, without an ounce of diva or drama. She's a delight to work with and sets the tone for a really positive set.
'Also, I'm never proprietary about my dialogue because I know that a script is a living document and we are all partners in the process, but she (and Loughlin, as well) was so respectful and if changes were necessary, we discussed them together. It was a true collaboration on both movies and two incredibly wonderful experiences, working with the best of the best.'
As far as her closest celeb pals, she says they are Danica McKellar and Rachel Boston.
Synopsis: Darcy is a career woman who hasn't found love, but her life turns upside down when she returns home to help her mother plan a charity event
'Danica's son is close in age to my kids and they've become really close. We get the families together pretty often. Danica and I had such a great time making COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS that we just sold another really exciting Christmas movie for next year.
'I can't say much about it yet but if the stars align and all the deals close and such, it's going to be really special.
'Rachel Boston and I met when I went to Vancouver to visit on STOP THE WEDDING and we hit it off right away. We've since sold three other movies together. I wrote and she produced LOVE AT FIRST DANCE, which aired this past summer, during June Weddings, and we had the best time.
Good team: And Lacey - best known from Party Of Five and Mean Girls - is also a pal. 'I joke with Lacey that she's the hardest working lady in show business. She and I pitched a movie together in 2014 that ultimately didn't sell and have wanted to work together ever since'
'Hallmark has this magical way of attracting the kindest, most decent people to the network. I think it comes from Bill Abbott (President and CEO) and Michelle Vicary (EVP, Programming), who are lovely and fun and completely accessible to everyone. I'm very fortunate that they've embraced me in their world and continue to hire me.
As far as a star she'd like to work with, she said it's Candace Cameron-Bure.
'I watched her Christmas movie the other night and she is just delightful on every level. Aside from Candace, a few actresses I would love to see come into the Hallmark fold are Mandy Moore and/or Brittany Snow. They have an energy that feels like they'd be such a seamless fit.'
For 2019? As far as a star she'd like to work with, she said it's Candace Cameron-Bure. 'I watched her Christmas movie the other night and she is just delightful on every level'
She also wouldn't mind writing for Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks.
Writing for Hallmark is a great fit for her.
'First of all, as a working mom, TV movies give me a lot of flexibility. I definitely have deadlines that I need to meet and sometimes that requires me to work around the clock, but if my kids (who are six and eight) have a school performance or a holiday potluck or a field trip to the museum, I can be there for them. I'm not stuck in an office or a writer's room until after bedtime; I get to be present for my family AND make a living, doing what I love. I am so grateful that every night I get to put them to bed. (Though sometimes I do have to go right back to my computer, afterward.)
'Secondly, the world is a little crazy right now and with everything so negative and polarized, I get to contribute to the feel-good side of life. Hallmark is 100% feel-good television. You always know where it's going, but that's okay because we take great care in bringing you along on a fun ride of light and love and VERY often gingerbread men and snowball fights and twinkling lights.
And she loves the challenge.
Friends: As far as her closest celeb pals, she says they are Danica McKellar and Rachel Boston. 'Danica's son is close in age to my kids and they've become really close'
'My inspiration is always changing, depending on the project. If I'm writing for a specific actor or actress, I'm inspired by his/her voice and strengths and talent. At the same time, I'm always looking for the humor in a situation and mining the moments for comedy. I've always found laughter to be the best medicine and if something makes me laugh, hopefully it'll do the same for others. I do try to layer in a message that's generally a lesson I would want my kids to learn. Be true to yourself. It's okay if you're not perfect. You can be whatever you want.
'The underlying message is so often the beauty of a Hallmark movie. Oh and also, the kiss at the end. I take them very seriously. The audience has been waiting for it and I feel a responsibility to deliver.
As far as those story lines, they are not from her life, but the dialogue is.
Top writer: Nina has been very busy writing 23 movies, but she won't name a favorite. 'Each has a special place in my heart in its own way. My favorite thing about these movies has been the friendships I've developed along the way, getting to visit fun locations and being a part of this incredible family that Hallmark has built'
'I've drawn from real life many times in small moments but, quite honestly, nothing in my own life is interesting enough for a movie. Most of the time, it's lines of dialogue that I take from my experiences and put into the films. For example, in one movie, the main character has a career disappointment and her love interest says to her, "It's one setback. You can't let rejection break you. You have to let it fuel you." This was something I used to say to myself as an up-and-coming writer when one of my scripts would get rejected. And it's advice I still give to young writers when they ask me for guidance. I hope those little moments that spoke to me in my life will resonate with the audience, as well.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
