Senior Writer at Slash Film Ben Pearson claimed: '#MaryPoppinsReturns is...not for me. Emily Blunt is the only person who could have played that role, and she does a commendable job. But the movie just attempts to recreate too much of the original, and totally fails to recapture its magic.'
Mary Poppins Returns is directed by Rob Marshall - best known for bringing Chicago: The Musical to life on the big screen in 2002 with Catherine Zeta Jones and Renee Zellweger.
Emily is at the helm of the sequel, but shared her reservations at taking on the titular character.
She explained in an interview with Vanity Fair that her daughter Hazel, four, is 'obsessed' with the original Mary Poppins and she is worried Hazel won't like her portrayal of the nanny.
Emily said: 'She is besotted with this movie - to the point where I have deep dread she is simply going to reject my version and be like, "You are not Mary Poppins" because she is so in love with Julie Andrews and she knows every single song.'
Although she added that her version of Mary Poppins, 25 years on from the original, is 'more eccentric': 'She is incredibly rude, vain and batty... she really made me laugh.'
Emily added to Entertainment Tonight on landing the role: 'It was sort of a dual feeling of, like, well, I desperately want to do it, but how do I carve out a new space for myself? How do I create my version of her?”
'I’d seen it as a child, so I have this sort of searing memory of her, but didn’t want to watch it as an adult before playing her because I kind of knew I might be swayed by what Julie did and feel like I have to emulate or compromise what I was wanting to do with her, which I took from the books.

The Girl On The Train actress added to Screen Rant that taking on the role of Mary Poppins has been 'surreal'. She said: 'I think Mary Poppins as a character is so iconic, and I think the film, for me, and I think for most people, is one of those films that is sort of seared into people's memory, an emblem of their nostalgia in many ways. It's very surreal to me being Mary Poppins.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
