«Breaking News» Nicola Roberts rocks a kooky trench coat-style minidress as she heads to the Mind Media Awards

She's been busy helping best friend Cheryl write songs for her upcoming album.

And Nicola Roberts enjoyed a well earned night off as she attended the Mind Media Awards at the Southbank Centre in London on Thursday.

The singer, 33, stepped out wearing a trench coat inspired minidress and towering nude Louboutin stilettos as she hit the red carpet.

The former Girls Aloud singer left her flame red hair loose around her face and accentuated her blue eyes with low-key makeup.

On Instagram, the Liverpudlian beauty confessed to her 266,000 followers that she had her hair layered to create the illusion of a bob at the front - but could not bring herself to chop off the rest.

Nicola began her career as a contestant on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 and went on to be a celebrated member of Girls Aloud, alongside Cheryl (then Tweedy), Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Sarah Harding.

The band enjoyed huge success before the group announced they were splitting for in 2013.

Despite the split, Nicola has remained close to Cheryl and helped her pen comeback single Love Made Me Do It. 

'We had the best time,' Cheryl said of the writing process. 

'It was so natural and organic and real because we've got a 16-year friendship.'

'She knows me inside out, she can speak for me sometimes. Her melodies are always first take wonders. It's just an organic relationship. '

The Mind Media Awards recognise and celebrate the best portrayals and reporting of mental health across TV, radio, print and online.

Nicola has often spoken out about the effect her time in the limelight has had on her mental health and previously said she was left 'miserable and confused' after being bullied for her red hair.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
