The owners of a newly opened Puerto Rican restaurant in Miami have been ordered to remove a mural of Puerto Rico's flag.
Latin American celebrity Julian Gil and Puerto Rican-born chef Jose Mendin joined forces to open La Placita, a new eatery which debuted its menu to tourists and area residents on New Year's Day.
The business partners were not aware they were required to submit an application through the Miami Modern [MiMo] district's historic board and city planning department to seek permission to paint over the building's white exterior.
Local home and business owners in the Miami Modern [MiMo] district were angered by the presence of the Puerto Rican flag.
The city and the Historic and Environmental Preservation Board have notified Gil and Mendin that they have 30 days to paint over the mural that cost them $25,000.
A Change.org petition has registered over 80,000 signatures supporting the mural.

Famed Puerto Rican-born artist Hector Hernandez created a number of projects throughout 2018 as the island battled to get back on its feet following the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria.
Hernandez, who goes by his artistic moniker Hector PR, worked on a series of murals called '78 Pueblos and Banderas' ['78 Towns and Flags'] in which he used his skills to paint the flag in each of the Caribbean island's 78 municipalities.
Gil, who was born in Puerto Rico and carved out a named for himself on television, commissioned the talented Hernandez to add some life to the building's white exterior.
Hernandez took limited breaks and completed the mural dubbed 'Plantando Bandera' [Staking Your Flag'] last Thursday.
Gil posted a Facebook video in Spanish on Wednesday in which he said it was his desire to have the first Puerto Rican flag mural to be located in Miami.
'We want to represent Puerto Rico. Just as we've done on the island, that's what we want to do here in Miami,' Hernandez chimed in.
However, Gil and Mendin never got the final OK from the board that oversees the MiMo Biscayne Boulevard Historic District, which so happens to be the only district in Miami that has been awarded a historic designation.

According to the board's guidelines, home and business owners have to adhere to a set palette of paint colors.
Alisa Cepeda, who owns a home in the district and serves as president of the volunteer MiMo Biscayne Association, a community group of home and business owners, is determined to maintain MiMo's historical standards.
'I'm a huge fan of murals, and street art is awesome. but there's a place for that and this is not a place for that,' Cepeda told the Miami Herald.
The building that houses La Placita was built in 2009.
The restaurant's CEO Joey Cancel said the building was not listed nor confirmed as historical.
If La Placita's owners go ahead and present their idea, it most likely won't be addressed until March, the Miami Herald reported. Cancel told the paper that it could run them over $25,000 to proceed with the case at the City Commission if the historic board shoots down their mural.
'We don't want to break the law because we're not above the law,' Cancel said.
'What I hope is that there can be a middle ground, something that works for everyone.'
Link hienalouca.com Interesting to note Looking for an investor or sponsor for a project to grow dinosaurs and relict plants. Requires the sum of investments from 400000$ to 900000$. The exact amount can not say because there are many nuances. It will be necessary to build a small laboratory with certain parameters. To all interested persons please write on an email angocman@gmail.com . It is the scientific project and I do not know whether it is possible to earn on it. The probability of success of the project is approximately 60%. That will be very interesting.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
