«Breaking News» Iowa boy, 13, died of 'significant head trauma' after falling from a communication tower

An Iowa teenager found dead after running away from home suffered 'blunt force head trauma' after falling from a communication tower.

Corey Brown, 13, was found dead Sunday, five days after he ran away from home during a snowstorm after having a disagreement with his parents.

Searchers discovered his body on January 27 at the communication tower site located in the 900-1000 block of West Iowa Avenue in Marshalltown.

Police say their investigation determined Brown climbed over a secure fence to enter the site and climbed the communication tower, then fell from an undetermined height, KCCI reported.

A preliminary autopsy revealed he fell and suffered a significant head injury. His cause of death was likely blunt force trauma, officials said.

Police are investigating the incident, but said they do not believe foul play was involved.

The investigation of the incident remains active, but police said there is no information that indicates criminal activity played a role in Brown’s death.

Services for Brown are being held Friday and Saturday in Marshalltown, where Corey lived with his family.

The funeral mass will be held at the church Saturday at 10:30 a.m at St. Henry’s Catholic Church.

Several inches of snow fell and temperatures plunged below zero degrees last week while Corey was missing.

Police said search efforts were hampered by a snowstorm which moved in early this week

At least 14 agencies and 'countless fire and EMS departments' were involved in the search.

Brown's family and police thanked them for all providing 'exceptionally professional service under very difficult conditions' in a statement.

The eighth-grader's school district which covered Brown's Miller Middle School and the Marshalltown High School, was 'saddened' by the news.

The Marshalltown Community School District said in a statement Sunday afternoon: 'Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the Brown family and those close to Corey. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.'

Brown went missing on the night of January 22 after he left home following a fight with his parents during the cold weather.

Police Chief Mike Tupper said he was growing increasingly concerned due to the length of time Corey has been missing and because of adverse weather conditions.

He asked property owners to check garages, sheds and vehicles in case the teen sought refuge from the snowstorm, which moved into the area earlier this week.

Footage from the family's security system showed Corey walking away from their home Tuesday night after he was scolded.

His parents Michelle and Craig Brown, along with investigators, held a news conference locally to raise awareness about their missing son earlier in the week.

His mother told KCCI: 'Corey, you know how much we love you. And I’m not going to stop until we find you. If you’re out there, please come home.

'We love you more than you’ll ever know. Please, please just come home.'

The teenager's mother fought back tears as she told the public she just wants her son home

Tupper had said runaways are investigated often in his town, but they are usually back home before too long.

Adding about the confiscation of the cellphone, he said: 'It's a typical interaction with a 13-year-old child, nothing extraordinary. But he reacted emotionally to that.'

Search efforts for Corey were hampered late Thursday by subfreezing temperatures and blustery winds.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
