«Breaking News» Girl, 17, covers eyes while driving and crashes pickup truck while attempting 'Bird Box Challenge'

A Utah teenager attempting a viral media challenge based on Netflix's hit Bird Box movie is being blamed for a parkway crash involving two cars.

Layton Police said that a 17-year-old girl was driving down Utah's Layton Parkway on Monday when she decided to cover her eyes with her beanie to participate in the so-called 'Bird Box Challenge' and immediately lost control of her grey truck.

The teen, who is not being named, then crossed over into oncoming traffic, hit a white SUV and crashed into a light pole, police said, according to ABC4.

'Bird Box Challenge while driving...predictable result,' Layton Police wrote in a tweet that included pictures of the two cars involved in the crash.

'This happened on Monday as a result of the driver covering her eyes while driving on Layton Parkway. Luckily no injuries,' the post continued.

The 17-year-old girl was said to have had a 16-year-old male passenger in the truck with her. It's unclear how many people were in the SUV.

Police said that the teen initially told authorities that the crash occurred because she was talking to her friend and gotten distracted, KSL reported.

Additional interviews later revealed that the teen was attempting the viral media challenge inspired by Netflix's hit December flick, Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock, in which characters must cover their eyes to prevent themselves from going mad and killing themselves.

The challenge has seen people being filmed doing a variety of every day things blindfolded, including walking into walls and down streets. One YouTube star also filmed himself driving while blindfolded.

The challenge prompted Netflix to issue a warning tweet on January 2.

'Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes,' @netflix tweeted.

Authorities are asking the city attorney to charge the teen girl with misdemeanor reckless driving, the Standard-Examiner reported.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
