«Breaking News» Emergency search for missing three-year-old boy Casey Hathaway in North Carolina

A massive emergency search effort has been mobilized to find a three-year-old boy who went missing in North Carolina.

Casey Lynn Hathaway, three, disappeared around 1pm on Tuesday from the back yard of his grandmother's house in Ernul, a rural community ringed by forests and swamps in eastern North Carolina. 

Casey had been playing with two other children when his grandmother realized he was missing after the other kids returned inside without him.

The grandmother called 911 after briefly searching for him with other family members, officials said.

Local and state police joined with the FBI in the search, setting up a command center near the grandmother's home (above) and coordinating more than 100 volunteers

Searchers raced against daylight on Tuesday but did not find young Casey before the sun set

As the day went on, the search grew to include over 100 volunteers, and the FBI, NC Highway Patrol and State Bureau of Investigation were called in to assist.  

'We're in an emergency search,' the Craven County Sheriff's Office said in a public appeal on Facebook.

'Residents living in the area are asked to check storage sheds, vehicles, and their property for the child,' the statement said.

Night fell on the searchers with no answers, and Hathaway's family spend a desperate night waiting for the search to resume.

Temperatures dropped into the low 30s in the area overnight. 

On Wednesday morning, the turnout to join the search was so massive that the sheriff's office stopped accepting volunteers at around 9.30am, WTVD-TV reported.

Searchers look for Casey in the rural area, which is dotted with swamps and sinkholes

Sheriff Chip Hughes told the Sun-Journal that the area being searched is heavily wooded with numerous pools and sink holes. 

'My biggest concern are those sinkholes and water,' Hughes said on Tuesday afternoon.

Casey is described as a white male with blond hair and brown eyes. He is 28 inches tall and weighing 25 pounds.

Anyone with information about Casey's whereabouts is urged to contact the Craven County Sheriff's Office immediately at 252-636-6620.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
