A decluttering expert has revealed the key ways to tidy your physical space, and how it will help to clear your mind.
Lizzie Grant, who blogs at Simplify Stuff believes that by clearing the junk in your home you can become calmer and more confident.
Lizzie believes decluttering can give you 'feelings of success', which boosts your mood as a good clear-out also means optimum head space and living space, which can lead to healthy new habits.
Research shows that clutter affects women substantially more than men, as it increases our cortisol levels (feelings of stress) - so decluttering is also a proven calming influence.
Here Lizzie gives Femail exclusive tips on how to declutter your space and mind...
Decluttering expert Lizzie Grant, pictured, has revealed the key ways to not just tidy your physical space, and how it will help clear your mind too
1. Visualise
Before you start decluttering, take a moment to imagine what your home would look like without the clutter. Imagine the time and energy you will save without having to search for things, and the happiness having a calm and peaceful home will bring you.
Take before and after photos to remind yourself of how much has been accomplished and what a difference you have made. This will also motivate you to not let the clutter build up again and to feel encouraged to tackle more.
2. Storage solutions
They sound amazing, but save yourself time and money and don't buy them before you start! They never solve the problem if you haven't decluttered first and will lead to more clutter and more stress.
Once you've decided which belongings you're going to keep and where, you can see if you still need to buy storage such as boxes and containers. If you do, measure the space to ensure that you buy items that are the right size and make the most of the space available.

3. The four pile rule
As you go through each category of your belongings e.g. clothes, shoes, toiletries, electronics etc. make four piles: keep, donate, throw away, and sell. This will help you focus your decision-making when picking up each item.
Put unwanted items in bags for charity, rubbish and recycling as you go along and once full, move them out of the space you are working in so that you don't feel overwhelmed.
4. Sleep
If you have a lot of clutter in your bedroom it could unconsciously be causing you stress before bed.
This clutter makes it much harder for you to wind down and even prevents you from getting the deep sleep you require to re-energise yourself for the next day.
Look around your bedroom and remove anything that reminds you of unfinished projects.
For example, laptops, phones, paperwork and even other jobs such as laundry that needs to be put away. By doing this, you are signalling to your brain that once you lie down, the only thing to do is rest.
5. Recycle or re-purpose
Try and get your unwanted items out of your house as soon as possible. Many items can be recycled, reused or re-purposed. For example, new, opened or part-used beauty products can be donated to Give and Makeup, a non-profit initiative whose aim is to get every day essentials into the hands of women and children who need them the most.
To make life easier, you can even order a free collection of your unwanted items to a local charity of your choice by using the Gone for Good app. There are many different options so you don't let your unwanted stuff continue to clutter up your space.
6. Find everything a home
During the decluttering process, remind yourself that everything needs a home. If an item doesn't have a specific home to live in when it's not being used, it becomes clutter.
Make sure the home you are giving an item isn't a battleground – you shouldn't have to fight to get something back into a cupboard. The homes for items should be spacious and situated near to where you use them. This makes it so much easier to tidy up and means when you need to find something, you'll know where to look for it.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
