His role as a troubled policeman guarding (and bedding) the Home Secretary won him an army of female fans – and a Golden Globe.
But Richard Madden has now dashed hopes of a quick return for Bodyguard, warning it will not be back until 2020 at the earliest.
Madden, 31, scooped the Golden Globe for best actor in a TV drama on Sunday for his performance as protection officer David Budd. It means the Scottish star, who also appears in Game of Thrones, has becomes a serious player in the entertainment world.

He told the Daily Mail he will return to Los Angeles later this month to consider future projects, joking: ‘If I’m going to sit and read scripts, I’d rather do it here by a pool.’
Madden, who had an affair with the Home Secretary played by Keeley Hawes in Bodyguard, also revealed that a second series – while ‘not an impossibility’ – is at least another year away, with all those involved needing a break.
He stressed that he, writer Jed Mercurio and the production team had ‘all expressed a desire to do more Bodyguards but there needs to be a break’.
Madden insisted: ‘Budd needs a break a sort his life out. You just can’t slap a script together and throw it onto the screen. It has to be carefully thought through. First of all, what is the story?

‘What’s the next step for a character like David Budd? The thinking is for all of us to have a break and come back to it fresh maybe in a year or so. I enjoyed playing him and I think the public liked him. We’ll get together and see what’s there.’
Bodyguard represented the BBC’s biggest hit in years. The drama’s finale drew 10.4million viewers – the highest audience for a UK show last year outside of the World Cup. When iPlayer watches were taken into account, the show hit an audience of 17million, the highest for any drama episode since modern records began in 2002.
Madden has previously told how the scale of Bodyguard’s success took him by surprise. ‘It’s just thrilling that a little show that didn’t have a huge budget, and just had a bunch of actors working really hard ... has done well,’ he said. ‘We just thought we were making a show we want to.’

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
