At Western Illinois, Khalen Sauders went largely unnoticed by NFL scouts, which is why he and his fiancee decided he should continue to prepare for Saturday's Senior Bowl in Alabama rather than return for his daughter's birth
Already known for his ability to do a back flip at 320 pounds, former Western Illinois defensive tackle and NFL hopeful Khalen Saunders made news this week when his fiancee ordered him to continue preparing for the upcoming Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama rather than returning to Illinois for the birth of their daughter.
As Saunders explained, Kambridge wasn't expected until the end of the month, but she opted for an early arrival.
'Y'all look at this!!' Saunders tweeted Thursday, including a picture of newborn Kambridge Vonyea. 'Look what we made! Head full of hair, big cheeks, big old eyes! Y'all can't tell me my baby girl ain't a cutie! I love you so much baby girl. Can't wait to meet you.'
Saunders naturally wanted to be in Illinois for his fiancee, Ayanna, but together they decided that he should continue practicing because a good performance in the Senior Bowl could go a long way towards helping his draft prospects. (Senior Bowl practices are populated by NFL scouts, all of whom are studying prospects in preparation for April's draft)
Newborn Kambridge Vonyea has yet to meet dad, Khalen, who is preparing for the NFL Draft
'She calls me and she's like, "I'm feeling light-headed,' and all of this kind of stuff,"' Saunders told reporters, as quoted by ESPN. 'She's felt light-headed before; it just comes with being pregnant. Next thing I know, I was on Snapchat and I see her in scrubs in the hospital bed. I FaceTimed her immediately, like, "Hold on, you said you were feeling light-headed, you didn't say this."'
As Saunders told reporters, the fact that he came from a lowly-regarded football program like Western Illinois made his performance during Senior Bowl week all the more important.
Scouts are less likely to be familiar with him, given the fact that he played at a smaller school, so he and Ayanna decided that he would stay to give NFL teams a better impression of his ability.
'I'm coming from a smaller school and I know that,' Saunders said. 'That's ultimately the reason I made the decision to stay, because I'm not afforded the luxury to just think that I'm going to go in the draft. I got to earn everything I get. Being from a small school, this is the perfect opportunity for me. I get to play against the top competition in the nation, play against some of the most talented guys in the world, really. It's a huge opportunity, man.

'There's a lot of guys that would want to be in my position right now, and I'd be foolish to go home,' he continued.
'I obviously would love to be there with my baby girl,' Saunders said. 'I really wish I could. All of this is for her. All of this is for my fiancée and my mom and for my family. That's the biggest reason I wanted to stay.'
Saunders was already a viral sensation, but not for his play on the field. At around 320 pounds, Saunders has been seen across social media doing back flips – something he's reportedly been able to do since he was eight-years old.
At a recent Senior Bowl practice, Saunders got a standing ovation for nailing his landing in front of Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden.
But, after registering 18 sacks and 127 tackles over his collegiate career with the Western Illinois Leathernecks, Saunders doesn't want to be known for his acrobatics.
'I don't want to be known as a gymnast,' he said, as quoted by the New York Post. 'I want to be known as an exceptional football player.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
