Amber Heard claims that Johnny Depp had an alter ego they both referred to as 'the monster' during the time she alleges they were in an abusive relationship.
The 32-year-old actress made the claims as part of a 471-page deposition referring to their 2015-2017 marriage, the details of which have not been made public until now in a story from The Hollywood Reporter.
While the screen star has claimed Depp, 55, left her battered and bruised after throwing a phone in her face and delivering blows to her at their California home, a transcript shows the actor has argued Heard was in fact the abusive one.

The actress made the claims as part of a 471-page divorce deposition. However police claim they never witnessed injuries after responding to a call
Heard told Depp's attorney Blair Berk on August 13, 2016: 'Johnny and I refer to his other personality, the part of him that is present when he beats me up — we call that the monster and have called [that] the monster for many years,' she stated. 'I was petrified of the monster.'
It came after Heard claimed in May 2016 her then-husband threw a phone 'as hard as he could' which hit her in the face.
Heard alleges she screamed after he grabbed her by her hair during an incident where the actor is said to have 'broke a lot of glass things that left glass on the floor'.
But Depp has claimed Heard was 'aggressive and violent' and hit him in the face because he was later to her birthday celebration in April 2016.
He states photographic evidence and witness statements will support his story in a forthcoming February 22 hearing in his defamation lawsuit against The Sun newspaper.
Documents detail a different story from the May incident three years ago where Depp alleges he brought two security guards with him to the apartment because he 'was concerned about what Ms. Heard might do'.
He admitted throwing a phone but insisted it didn't hit her and claimed when security entered the apartment after hearing Heard shouting at him, she began crying.

Depp's legal team has noted that 'hardcopy photographs were put in evidence, but neither the original images nor the associated metadata were produced' to prove timings.
He has claimed the damage caused to items in the apartment and the Aquaman star's face, was done after the fact and not by him.
Officer Melissa Saenz's July 18, 2016 deposition, added that there were no broken items in the penthouse when she visited and Officer Tyler Hadden had a similar testimony.
Suing the publication for a story about Heard and Depp's alleged abusive relationship, the Pirates of the Caribbean star's legal representative added that Heard's December Washington Post op-ed was also an example of her 'abuse of the #metoo movement'.

Heard's lawyer said they are seeking punitive damages for Depp's claims she was violent but Depp's lawyer said they were withdrawn
It's an extension of what he told THR in October: 'Ms. Heard repeatedly violently attacked and severely injured Mr. Depp, and then faked abuse allegations against him.'
In her earlier divorce testimony Heard said she 'did her best' to protect herself again spouse when asked if she had ever struck him.
Heard's lawyer Eric George denied that she was abusive and stated she is seeking punitive damages for his claims. Depp's lawyer, however told THR the arbitration complaint from Heard's side had been withdrawn.
'Mr. Depp’s ongoing defamation and violation of the parties’ confidentiality agreement is already the subject of a pending arbitration. We won’t dignify his comments with any further response,' George said in a statement to the publication.
Heard's friend Raquel Pennington maintains that during the phone-throwing incident at their Los Angeles property, she witnessed bruises on Heard's face and saw Depp 'swinging around' a magnum of wine which he allegedly used knock items off a counter, law enforcement had a conflicting account.
Pennington has argued she has 'dozens of photos' of Heard's bruises during their friendship and from this particular incident but an LAPD officer insists she never witnessed marks on the actress when she responded to the call.
Pennington has disagreed with the accounts from police and argued they saw everything she referred to and even offered to 'arrest him right now'.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
