Stockbroker turned backgammon pro Rod Colvin terrorized his wife Shele for nearly the entire year before her death, his sister-in-law testified Wednesday in Colvin's murder trial.
This included Covlin, now 45, calling Shele a 'b**** 'and a 'c***' in front of their children and his parents on Mothers Day 2009.
Eve Karstaedt, Shele Covlin's sister, told the jury at Manhattan Supreme Court that Shele's voice was shaking and quivering when she said that Covlin 'flew into a rage' during a family outing with their two children and Covlin's parents.
'She said he flew into a rage,' Karstaedt said. 'She said he called her a b**** and a c*** in front of the children, in front of his parents, saying she wasn't showing his mother respect on Mothers Day.'

'[Shele said], 'I've got to get away, I've got to get out,' Karstaedt said.
On Jan. 5, 2009, nearly 12 months before 36-year-old Shele was found dead in her Upper West Side apartment on New Years Eve of the same year, Shele told her sister Covlin had become a 'nightmare to live with,' according to an email from Shele that Karstaedt read aloud during the first day of testimony.

Shele Danishefsky's sister Eve Karstaedt read out an email from Shele revealing Rod Covlin screamed and swore at her in front of her children and parents on Mother's Day 2009
'He [Covlin] constantly picks fights and flies off the handle very easily and when he does his anger is out of control,' Karstaedt quoted from Shele's email.
Later that day, Shele confided to her sister that she had confronted Covlin about her suspicions of his infidelity – which he confirmed – and that she had spoken to a lawyer, Karstaedt read from another email.
The next day, the sisters met in the shoe department of Lord & Taylor where a crying Shele told her sister she had written a letter to Covlin saying it it was time to end the marriage, Karstaedt testified through tears.

'She said he was terrified to send it and she was terrified not to send it,' Karstaedt said.
Shele died on Dec 31, 2009, having apparently drowned in her bathtub.
Her daughter Anna, then 9, discovered the body and called Covlin, who lived in an apartment across the hall, separate from her family.
Covlin told police Shele had been face down in the tub and he had dragged her body out onto the floor.

At the time of her death, Rod was 36 and Shele, a UBS executive from a wealthy background, was 47. She was the sole breadwinner and he was pursuing his backgammon passion
Shele was buried without an autopsy based on the wished of her Orthodox Jewish family.
Karstaedt said the family initially wanted an autopsy – 'We ere concerned there was foul play,' she said – but that a rabbi had talked them out of it.
Karstaedt also detailed her sister's travails at Covlin's hands over visitation with their children.
In July 2009, Covlin didn't not return the children for many hours after his time with them was up, sending Shele into a panic.
After the children were finally returned, Shele and the children joined Karstaedt for Shabbos, Karstaedt testified.

The couple were in the midst of a bitter divorce battle and Shele was trying to write her husband out of her will. They were living in separate apartments on the same floor of this Upper West Side apartment building
As the sisters lit the Shabbos candles, 'She said to me, 'I think Rod's hatred for me is stronger than his love for our children,' Karstaedt said.
In the afternoon, defense attorney Robert Gottlieb grilled Karstaedt about the family’s decision to forgo an autopsy of Shele’s body.
Karstaedt said one rabbi told the family to go ahead with an autopsy on Shele, telling them “her soul is crying out for it.”
But a second rabbi told the family the police said her death was an accident and that that they should bury Shele without a post mortem examination.
But Karstaedt said she wasn’t comfortable with the decision.
“No one forced you to waive an autopsy?” Gottlieb asked.
“Correct,” Karstaedt replied.

Shele's nine-year-old daughter Anna found her face down in the bathtub of their apartment (shown) on New Year's Eve at 7am. By the time police arrived, Rod was in dry clothes
” If you thought this was suspicious or a crime you wouldn’t have waived an autopsy?” Gottlieb queried.
“No,” Karstaedt responded.
Why did she and her family reverse course and change their outlook on the autopsy?
“When you ask an opinion, you go with what you receive,” Karstaedt explained. “You can’t go shopping.”
Karstaedt also swore in a verified petition from her attempt to gain custody of the two Covlin children that the family thought the death was an accident – “a bizarre slip and fall in the bathtub.”
She attempted to dodge the signed petition, telling Gottlieb, “That’s not what we were saying.”
But after some back and forth, Judge Ruth Pickholz intervened and asked Karstaedt, “Is that what you swore to?”
“I guess so,” Karstaedt said. “Yes.”
Karstaedt's cross examination is scheduled to resume tomorrow.
On Tuesday, the court had heard successful UBS executive Shele was in the midst of divorcing her much younger husband Covlin when she was killed.
Prosecutors claimed the backgammon player killed his wife out of 'pure unadulterated greed'
Shele had planned to write her estranged husband out of her will and $5million fortune, one day before her death.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
