«Breaking News» Zara McDermott EXCLUSIVE: Love Island star finally QUITS job as a civil servant

Love Island star Zara McDermott has revealed that she's finally quit her job as a civil servant, almost six months after she shot to fame on the popular reality show.

And after being restricted from discussing politics, the 21-year-old has disclosed that she's a Brexit-supporting Tory, who counts Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd and former Prime Minister David Cameron among her heroes.

The Kent native, who is in a relationship with fellow Love Island star Adam Collard, made the revelation during an appearance on the BBC's Brexit Blind Dates, where she debated the pros and cons of Britain leaving the EU with Magid Magid.

Of her political heroes, she gushed: 'I worked under Amber Rudd. I kind of looked to her and I was like, "That's a really strong woman." She knows her stuff. She was a really good person to work under. Quite inspiring.

'And also, I really liked David Cameron as well. He really knew what he was doing... I felt a lot safer under his wing, if you know what I mean... I think he was a stronger candidate for a Prime Minister.'

Speaking on the show, she said of her job, which she'd held since the age of 18: 'You have to be completely impartial, so I've chosen to resign. Do you know how weird it is to be able to talk about my political opinion? I've been holding it in for three years.'

And as she sat down with the 29-year-old Lord Mayor of Sheffield - a Green Party councillor, who voted to remain in the EU - Zara got straight into the business of sharing her views on why she felt it was right for Britain to leave Europe.

Zara, who previously worked in the Department of Energy and Climate Change, told Magid: 'I'm quite conservative - I always have been. I voted to leave...

'Did you know that the UK has to submit its annual budget for review to the EU Commission before it even tells its own people what it's going to be spending?

'Things like that, I think there are almost elements of control within the EU that we don't, perhaps, need to have.'

However, when Magid argued that Britain wanted 'all the rights [that come with being a part of Europe], but we don't the freedom of movement', and that Prime Minister Theresa May's government had made 'ridiculous' demands, she agreed.

On whether she though Theresa May was doing a good job in her efforts to steer Britain out of the EU with the best deal possible, Zara said: 'She's trying her best, but if I'm completely honest, I think she went in very soft and it's kind of like for me.

'If you wanna leave, leave. If you wanna stay, stay. We can't sit in the middle... The fact of the matter is, you can't keep everyone happy in politics. You never will.'

She rejected the idea of a People's Vote, where the public would take to the polls once again to decide on Britain's future in Europe, arguing: 'You can't just vote again until you get the result you want...

'I think that people would change their mind now [if they voted again]. And I agree, if there was another referendum it would come out remain. But you can't just say, do you know what, we're gonna go down this path.

'And then you start doing it, you go all this way and then you just go, "Should we do it still? Do you think we should still do it?" I just think then that all of that time would have been completely wasted. It's devaluing it, I think. It's devaluing the democracy.'

Zara added that she felt many voters voted to leave Europe based on immigration, explaining: 'A lot of people voted leave, it was on immigration. And I think there's no integration. There's no, like, unity. And I do think that's a bit disappointing.'

While she admitted to Magid that if she moved to the Democratic Republic of the Congo she'd be drawn to people from Essex if she met them there, she continued: 'I always think, why can't we all be friends? Why can't we all get along, and why can't we respect each other's cultures and understand it?'

Somali-born Magid shared that he integrated into British society after arriving without knowing a word of English, but received complaints about his background when he rose to position of Lord Mayor.

'It's a real shame that it's like that,' conceded Zara. 'For me it's less about immigration and more about the fact that people can't keep coming in, taking advantage of things like the NHS and our healthcare system and then leaving, because it's unfair.'

'Cuts to things that are being absolutely taken advantage of, ie, the benefits system and the NHS... There are definitely people on benefits that don't need to be benefits,' she continued.

'But I think that a really good thing to be able to produce in the UK would be almost like a couponing system. To be able to really monitor that and just know that it's not going to waste.

Points of view: While the pair held opposing political stances, they appeared to agree on several points made during their meal together

'Because I think that it is quite a risky thing to just give someone a lot of money and just be like, "Here's some money for you." If they're an addict, it won't feed their addiction. So I think that would be really beneficial.'

When Magid branded such a proposal 'inhumane', and one that would strip benefits recipients of their freedom, she said: 'I completely agree.

'People want to get a luxury from time to time, and just because they're on benefits doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to do that.

'But I think that there should be at least 50 to 60 per cent of it should be that. No system is ever going to be perfect. There are always going to be flaws in a system. But we should try and make it as best as we can.'

A source close to Zara has told MailOnline that the reality star is thrilled at finally being able to engage her fans on political matters.

'Encouraging young people to be more engaged in politics is something Zara feels really passionate about,' revealed the pal.

''She loved working in the civil service and with the people there, however she had to remain completely impartial and wasn’t able to discuss her views openly.

She wanted to be able to talk freely about her views and help make young people have more understanding about the mechanics of politics and the importance of what government departments do.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
