«Breaking News» I'm A Celebrity: Harry Redknapp recalls running over his wife

Harry Redknapp recalled the 'nightmare' moment in 2017 he accidentally ran over his wife, during his first challenge on the new series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

The football manager, 71, is one of the celebs taking part in the ITV show, and didn't waste any time in opening up to his campmates on Sunday night's opening episode.

During his first challenge, which saw him in the passenger seat of a jeep, the sports legend told his campmates that he used to consider himself 'a good driver' until the accident.

As part of a series of challenges to determine which celebs would enter which camp, Harry and his co-star Nick Knowles had to sit in the front seat of their red jeep– one driving and one navigating.

They had to race the opposing team up a sandy track to a parking barrier placed across the lane.

A sign said 'step one collect 5 tokens here, tokens vary in size'. A second sign said 'Insert 5 tokens here, slots vary in size. Tokens vary in size.'

The navigator in each jeep had to retrieve five tokens from a hell hole and then pass them to the driver who had to insert them into slots in another hell hole. The team who competed the Trial the quickest would then be able to have first choice of the next celebrity.

Nick confidently steered his jeep towards his barrier whilst Fleur East struggled as her jeep got stuck in the sand.

Harry commented as the Red team travelled. 'I used to think I was a good driver but I had a nightmare and ran over my wife one day.

'Shall I turn the engine off so everyone can hear you scream' said Nick to Harry as the football manager prepared to put his hand in the hell hole.

Nick and Harry completed the Trial first which meant the reds had first choice of the next set of teammates.

The former football boss accidentally mowed down his wife Sandra, 71, in Westbourne, four miles from the couple's £5million mansion in the wealthy Sandbanks area of Poole, Dorset.

Getting stuck in: Instead of driving Harry had to navigate and have some close encounters with creepy crawlies

Sandra - who has been married to her husband for 49 years - was heard screaming in agony and had surgery for ligament damage on her ankle.

Speaking last year, the former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham manager said he 'thought he had lost her'.

He told Good Morning Britain: 'I thought I had lost her. I thought I had done her foot.

'I thought a car had hit her. I heard her scream. I didn't realise it was me.'

The dramatic incident unfolded when Harry had driven his wife to the shops.

One witness claimed her foot, and coat had been caught in the door as he pulled away while others witnesses said the football manager had looked shaken when he realised what had happened.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
