A jet dragster driver died in a crash in Florida on Thursday during her first run in a racing category that saw her reach speeds up to 200 miles per hour.

Katarina Moller, 24, was making her first run of an exhibition event in a jet dragster when she crashed at the Sebring International Raceway on Thursday night.

'Kat' had been racing since Easter of 2006 - graduating from junior drag racing, sportsman cars, dragsters and eventually to jet dragsters. Jet dragsters are capable of reaching speeds of over 200mph, the Ocala Star Banner reports.

At the time of the crash, she had been driving for the all-women 'American Dream' racing team under the Larsen Motorsports group. The car she was driving was red, white and blue.

Just before the crash, Moller posted a video showing herself at the racetrack.

The jet dragster is equipped with an engine that burns through 25 gallons of fuel every quarter of a mile. These same engines are used in small aircrafts

The Highland County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the crash and is asking for any videos or photos pertaining to the accident.

'Kat has been a part of our racing family for five years and we cannot begin to express our sorrow,' said Chris Larsen, CEO of Larsen Motorsports.

Wayne Estes, president and general manager of Sebring International Raceway, added: 'We knew Kat well and were big fans of her personality and her driving skill. (SIR) and the entire racing community are heartbroken.'

Moller was an accomplished figure skater and gymnast by the time she got her start at the Bradenton Motorsports Park.

She also had a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of South Florida. When she was 19, 'Kat' competed in the Jet Dragster division of the International Hot Rod Association.

'People want to know why I want to make fire, because most people run away from it,' Larsen said in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times. 'I don't have this strange fascination with heat or fire. But I have a fascination with power. And the fire makes power. Most people think I'm totally crazy. Most people think my car is a ticking time bomb ready to go off.'

According to the Larsen Motorsports Facebook page, the woman's family thanked people for their thoughts and prayers in remembering the popular driver.

A funeral will be held for Moller on Monday at 6pm at the Ephinany Cathedral Church in Venice, Florida. The burial will take place at the Sarasota Memorial Park on Tuesday.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
