«Breaking News» Cortez blasts sexism in Congress after being mocked for her clothing and mistaken for intern

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has slammed the sexism she's experienced in her first week on Capitol Hill after she was sent to intern and spouse events and chastised for carrying a jacket and coat.

The Democrat, who at 29 is the youngest Congresswoman ever elected, was mistaken for an intern on Wednesday.

'People keep giving me directions to the spouse and intern events instead of the ones for members of Congress,' she said on Twitter

Washington Examiner reporter Eddie Scarry referred to her as a girl, then slammed her outfit.

He tweeted, and later deleted, a picture of her walking the halls of the Capitol with a coat and jacket draped over her arm and wrote: 'Hill staffer sent me this pic of Ocasio-Cortez they took just now. I'll tell you something: that jacket and coat don't look like a girl who struggles'.

By 'struggles' he was referring to Ocasio-Cortez's comments after her election win that she couldn't afford to rent an apartment in DC before she got her first paycheck from Congress.

His comments were criticized by thousands of people on Twitter.

She later slammed the tweet, saying: 'If I walked into Congress wearing a sack, they would laugh & take a picture of my backside.

'If I walk in with my best sale-rack clothes, they laugh & take a picture of my backside. Dark hates light - that’s why you tune it out. Shine bright & keep it pushing.

When he removed the post, she said: 'Oh, does [he] think he can delete his misogyny without an apology? I don’t think so. You’re a journalist - readers should know your bias.

Other political figures chimed in to share their own experiences with being mistaken for interns.

'I STILL get stopped in the halls and confused for a spouse or an intern. This is what happens when you're a young WOC [woman of color] in Congress -- but it shouldn't,' New York representative Grace Meng asserted, according to US Today

Florida representative Carlos Curbelo - who just lost his election to Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell - dismissed Ocasio-Cortez's sentiment when she defended her remarks to another Twitter user.

Florida representative Carlos Curbelo stated: 'After four years I still get stopped sometimes. Happens to a lot of the younger Members. It's no big deal. You'll get over it'

The criticism continued into Thursday, after journalist Eddy Scarry shared a photo of the politician walking with her belongings.

'ATTN! I posted a tweet earlier suggesting the incoming congresswoman looked well put together -- ELEGANT even -- despite suggestions she's struggled,' Scarry said. 'The tweet was taken as something else, so I've deleted it!'

But the damage had already been done, with many sharing photos of wacky outfits deemed from a 'hill staffer.'

'Girl. Noun. A female child, from birth to full growth,' Dictionary.com stated. 'E.g. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not a girl.'

The fresh face in Washington admitted that she wouldn't be able to afford living in the nation's capitol before she was sworn-in in January.

She told the New York Times that gap will be 'very unusual, because I can't really take a salary. I have three months without a salary before I'm a member of Congress,' she said.

'So, how do I get an apartment?' she wondered. 'Those little things are very real.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
