«Breaking News» Body language expert analyses new Prince Charles birthday pictures

Prince Charles is captured looking relaxed in his garden and beaming with pride at his grandson in new images released this week.

Getty photographer Chris Jackson, who travels the world with the royals, spent much of the last year documenting intimate and 'behind the scenes' moments with Charles to celebrate his 70th birthday.

The resulting images offer a rarely seen look into the off-duty life of the heir to the throne.

Speaking to FEMAIL, body language expert and author Judi James explained the images offer insight into different aspects of Prince Charles' personality - although some appear slightly more staged than the royal household might have hoped.

Among the standout photos is one of Prince Charles, affectionately known as 'Grandpa Wales', cradling his seven-month-old grandson Prince Louis in the grounds of Clarence House, London, in September.

Another shows the royal tending to his prize-winning chickens in the grounds of Highgrove House - the place Charles has described as his 'haven'.

The image of Charles as the proud grandfather shines through in the snap of the prince with his young grandson.

'This is clearly the money shot,' Judi explained. 'With the grandpa holding an adorable baby Louis with his face wreathed in a congruent smile of pride.

While this shot, taken at Highgrove House in Tetbury, is designed to look casual and informal, Judi suggests it is 'generations away' from the 'genuine informality' shown by his sons

'Babies and dapper smart suits are a dangerous combination which is possibly why Charles is holding the baby rather gingerly here though.'

His bond with his sons Harry, 34, and William, 36, is also apparent in an candid snap of the three men in military uniform.

'Charles also looks like a doting dad here withe the bias on Harry in this pose,' Judi noted.

'Harry is known for his sense of humour and that seems to bring out the fun and rather boyish side of the prince while William stands much more formally and protectively on his other side.'

Meanwhile the photos of Charles in his garden at Highgrove paint the image of Charles as an isolated but thoughtful man 'happy in his own pursuits'.

While there is no doubt the shots are designed to look casual and informal, Judi suggests it is 'generations away' from the 'genuine informality' shown by his sons in their public outings.

But Judi noted: 'The way he has just tucked his suit trousers into his wellingtons makes the moment less congruent here. The prince clearly does engage in his passions but this look is less convincing and a tad too staged.'

The busy royal shows off his level of engagement in broader issues in a shot of him reading briefing notes on the Royal Train on the journey from London to Durham.

'With his red folders at his side and his glasses perched on the end of his nose Charles looks more like a PM here, hinting at the kind of political interest and enquiring mind that prompted his famous letter-writing,' Judi notes.

'As he peruses his file his right toe is held up vertically, signalling genuine and possibly critical or opinionated interest.'

Royal photographer Chris Jackson reveals what went on behind the scenes of Charles' birthday shoot

A cheeky Prince George clambered onto his grandfather's lap as he vied for attention at Prince Charles' birthday photo shoot, it has been revealed.

The five-year-old royal delighted in playing with his 'Grandpa Wales' as the family gathered at Clarence House to mark the milestone with new portraits, according to the photographer behind the images.

Getty's Chris Jackson, who travels the world with the royals, also told how a playful Prince Harry, 34, appeared in good spirits as he larked about in the gardens of the London residence - at one point pinching his father's pocket square.

Mr Jackson, husband of the Duchess of Cambridge's stylist Natasha Archer, revealed really went into taking the photos in an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine.

He recalled how three-year-old Princess Charlotte swung off her grandfather's arms and how Charles cooed over his youngest grandchild, seven-month-old Prince Louis.

'It was lovely chaos with the children,' Mr Jackson said. 'He is a very hands-on grandfather.

'He was holding hands with George and Charlotte, and bouncing Louis up and down for a long time.'

The photographer explained Prince George clambered onto his grandfather's knee - where he sits in the official portraits - as he vied for prime position.

Mr Jackson continued: 'They [George and Charles] have a great relationship that's a little more established, as George is a bit older.'

Two photos from the set, taken in September, were released by Clarence House this week to mark Prince Charles' 70th birthday on Wednesday.

They feature Charles with the Duchess of Cornwall, 70, Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex, 37, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, both 36, and their children, George, Charlotte and seven-month-old Prince Louis.

Further photos published in the Sunday Times Magazine today include one of Prince Charles cuddling a happy Prince Louis into his chest.

Another shows the baby grabbing at his grandfather's eye as the family position themselves around a garden bench, prompting giggles from his parents and uncle and aunt.

The Royal Family held a number of events to mark Prince Charles' birthday, including a glittering dinner at Buckingham Palace.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
