Bette Midler is in hot water after a comedic attempt at dissing the first lady went sour.
The 72-year-old singer-actress took to Twitter on Thursday with an offensive hashtag alongside a shot Melania Trump took for a 2000 British GQ spread in a futuristic metallic swimsuit that showed off liberal amounts of flesh.
Midler put a spin on the shot, writing, 'The dry cleaning bill for the upholstery on Air Force One must be insane. #FLOTITS.'

The punchline drew a litany of negative responses from people of both political affiliations, as one user who identified as a 'liberal feminist' told the Grammy-winning entertainer that Melania's past modeling work 'should NOT matter' when it comes to contemporary political issues involving her and her husband, President Donald Trump.
'I am tired of seeing people denounce her for having been a nude model, which has nothing to do with her FLOTUS work nor her involvement in this administration. Stay on message!' the user told Midler.
Another user echoed similar sentiments, pointing out that Midler was out of line in her criticism of Melania's past work,
'Now you've moved on to body Shaming? You? Honestly?' the user wrote. 'Is this what you want your daughter to be like as well. Teach her that if you disagree Politically that all bets are off when it comes to how you are as a human being? #Shameful.'

One user said Bette's razor sharp words had sullied a reputation built on decades of work in show business.
'I loved you for years,' the user wrote. 'Loved you in Beaches and Hocus Pocus. Now I'm done. I'm so sorry you have done this. This has nothing to do with politics. It's just wrong.'
Not everyone was put off by Midler's tweet, as one user wrote, 'I just love you 1,000 times more for this !!!!! Thank you queen !!!'

Melania's past modeling pics had previously made headlines during the 2016 presidential campaign.
In March of that year, a super PAC supporting Trump's chief rival for the Republican nomination, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, released in predominantly-Mormon areas ad that read, 'Meet Melania Trump, Your Next First Lady' next to another risque shot from the GQ set.
Trump was quick to shoot back with threats he would unearth secrets about Cruz's wife, Heidi, tweeting, 'Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!'
Trump has taken digs at Midler in the past as well, writing in 2012, 'Now grotesque @BetteMidler is into the Trump act --- trying to become relevant again,' also writing, 'While @BetteMidler is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
