«Breaking News» X Factor: Simon Cowell confirms the show has been RENEWED until 2022

Simon Cowell has confirmed The X Factor has been renewed until 2022, despite this series reaching a record low in ratings.

Speaking to The Sun the 59-year-old said that ITV have offered him a three or five year deal, thanks to ratings boost in the 18 to 34 demographic.

This comes despite Saturday's show earning just 4.78 million, which is one of the lowest ever viewership in the show's 14-year history.

Speaking about The X Factor's future Simon said: 'We've just been offered an extension on both shows because of the 16 to 34-year-old audience.

'We could probably do three years or five years. It makes a lot of money.

'We're losing people now but fortunately the young audience has actually grown this year and all the advertisers and the sponsors want that income on a Saturday.'

Simon also hinted that he was considering doing another celebrity version in a bid to drum up viewers, 13 years after The Battle Of The Stars series.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for X Factor for further comment.

The legendary judge also said that bosses are already considering renewing Britain's Got Talent as it contract is up in 2019, saying the show still pulls in strong viewership, and even continued strong despite the absence of host Ant McPartlin this year.

This news comes after fans feared The X Factor's days could be numbered, as the show continued to suffer drops in ratings.

While last week's show drew just 4.78 million episodes, its Fright Night Halloween special earned even less at 4.5 million, after the show was plagued with sound issues and saw the public vote being cancelled.

This series also saw Simon give the show a massive shake-up as he tried to get ratings back to the show's glory days - when 16 million viewers tuned into the 2010 final.

Changes included an all-new panel of Robbie Williams, his wife Ayda and One Direction superstar Louis Tomlinson, who seems to have helped bring in more young viewers.

Simon also ditched some of the show's more complex twists such as The Prize Fight and Bootcamp, and has also moved the show's time-slot and the Final date to avoid prime-time rival Strictly Come Dancing.

This comes despite...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
