«Breaking News» Walmart parking lot transformed into a cold and cramped campsite for desperate wildfire evacuees

Hundreds of wildfire evacuees in Northern California have set up a tent city in a Walmart parking lot, building a new community after their old ones have been destroyed.

Some 50,000 people were forced to evacuate Butte County last week as the Camp Fire tore across thousands of acres, razing entire neighborhoods and reducing countless homes and businesses to piles of ash.

After shelters in the area reached capacity, many were forced to get creative.

An informal camp ground has been set up in front of a Walmart in Chico, located just beyond the more than 125,000 acres left in Camp Fire's wake.

Among the campers is Laura Whitaker, who set up a tent with other family members, including her nine-year-old grandson, after her home in Paradise burned down.

'All that's left up there is ashes,' she said of the devastated town and surrounding areas in an interview with the Mercury News.

'But I'll say everyone around here is so nice and helpful. A woman came who survived the Santa Rosa fire, and she told everyone all kinds of things that are good to know as you try to move forward.'

Whitaker said the campground has come to feel even more comfortable than a shelter, thanks to the community it's fostered.

'All of us here are in the same situation — whether you lost a trailer or a really nice home, we're all in the same place,' Whitaker said.

Jeanine Cartwright set up camp outside the Walmart on Thursday afternoon, hours after the fire was ignited.

'My daughter and son-in-law are here too, and some friends. All the evacuees are helping each other, it's like a family,' she said.

Paul Hossfield, who lived with Cartwright, said: 'It was terrible, losing our house like that. I also lost a Harley [Davidson] I was going to restore.

'But we're here now, and there has been so much support.'

As soon as things settle down, Cartwright and Hossfield are planning to rebuild in Paradise.

Holly and James Wells, however, re now preparing to start over in a new place after losing everything in their home.

James said: 'I was born and raised in Paradise, but there's nothing left. We're going to Ohio where my brother lives.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
