«Breaking News» Venom soars past $800M at the worldwide box office... surpassing last year's Wonder Woman

Sony's hit Spider-Man spin-off Venom has passed another big box office milestone this weekend.

The movie has now earned $822.5 million worldwide, surpassing the $821.8 million take of one of last year's biggest superhero movies, Wonder Woman, according to Forbes.

Most of those earnings came from overseas, with $211.7 million coming from its domestic haul while $610.8 million was from foreign markets.

Venom was produced on a relatively modest $100 million budget, with Forbes projecting its worldwide take will be roughly $865 million.

It also has the distinction of being the highest grossing superhero 'origin story' of all time.

(That is if you don't count Black Panther ($1.346 billion), since the character was introduced in Captain America: Civil War.)

Venom will be among the most profitable superhero movies of all time, behind only The Mask ($350 million worldwide, $23 million budget), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ($200 million worldwide, $14 million budget), Batman ($411 million worldwide, $35 million budget), Deadpool ($783 million worldwide, $58 million budget) and Chronicle ($126 million worldwide, $12 million budget).

As of now, Venom's $211.7 million take is good for ninth biggest blockbuster of the year, but it could jump to as high as sixth place.

At just over $210million Venom is easily within striking distance of Solo: A Star Wars Story ($213.8 million), Ant-Man and the Wasp ($216.6 million) and Mission: Impossible - Fallout ($220.2 million)

Still, Venom likely won't surpass Deadpool 2's $318.5 million take for fifth place.

On the worldwide box office charts, Venom's $822.5 million is good for sixth place, and unless it's surpassed by one of the potential blockbusters in December, it will likely stay put.

Venom is still very far behind The Incredibles 2 ($1.240 billion), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($1.304 billion), Black Panther ($1.346 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War ($2.046 billion).

While Venom is clearly a hit with audiences, critics didn't respond to it quite as well, with just a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Eddie and Anne: Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, who, with the help of an alien symbiote, turns into the villainous Venom, with Michelle Williams playing Anne Weying

Sony has set dates for unspecified movies on July 10, 2020 and October 5, 2020, with the October movie believed to be a sequel to Venom.

The sequel will likely feature a character teased in the post-credit sequence, Carnage, played by Woody Harrelson.

Most of those...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
