«Breaking News» Mother of teenage girl who suffered burns to her leg in chemistry class experiment gone wrong sues

The mother of a high school student who suffered burns to her leg during a chemistry class experiment is suing the school district and four of its employees for $2.25million.

Karen Green, a resident of Locust Gap, Pennsylvania, filed suit against Mount Carmel Area School District, which she accuses of negligence.

The lawsuit names the district, Superintendent Bernard Stellar, Principal Lisa Varano, chemistry teacher Tammy Michaels, and school nurse Leanne Ryan, according to PennLive.com.

Green’s daughter, a student at Mount Carmel Area High School, and another student were injured on August 30 during a routine chemistry experiment.

The lawsuit alleges that the school ignored guidelines issued by national organizations to avoid using methanol-based flame tests in open laboratory desks.

The school is accused of failing to take the proper precautions that would have shielded students from the accident.

The two students were rushed to hospital and treated for moderate injuries, according to WNEP-TV.

The teacher, Michaels, was also injured in the accident and was treated at hospital.

Stellar told WNEP-TV that ‘the teacher indicated that all safety protocols were followed for the demonstration.

‘Parents were immediately contacted, and they arrived at the school to accompany their children to the hospital.’

Tammy Michaels, the chemistry teacher who allegedly conducted the experiment, was also injured and treated at a local hospital. She is named in the lawsuit

According to court documents, Michaels, who was wearing goggles, tried to light methanol that had been poured into a container.

When the methanol failed to ignite, she allegedly poured in more methanol.

The second attempt to ignite caused an explosion, court documents allege.

The force of the blast then caused the container to top onto its side, the lawsuit states.

The flaming methanol then rolled out of the container and onto the young girl’s leg as well as her desk, which was in the front row of the room.

Both the girl’s leg and the desk caught on fire, it is alleged.

As the girl tried to get away from the burning desk, she fell to the floor crying in pain, according to the lawsuit.

Other students then rushed to her aid.

The lawsuit alleges that the fire blanket was still inside a shipping container and could not be removed while the classroom shower had not been working for two years.

The girl’s leg was extinguished, though it is unclear how. She was then taken to the nurse’s office.

The lawsuit alleges that the girl waited for 30 minutes for the ambulance to arrive. During that time, she was in great pain, the court documents claim.

She received treatment at Lehigh Valley Hospital regional burn center in Allentown for second-degree burns.

As a result of the accident, the girl is permanently scarred. The lawsuit alleges that she also suffers from post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, mental anguish, and humiliation.

Green says she only learned of her daughter’s accident through a neighbor because the school did not have up-to-date emergency contact information.

The lawsuit seeks $150,000 for each of the five counts of abuse negligence, conscience-shocking behavior, and deliberate indifference to the girl’s rights to bodily integrity and physical safety.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
