«Breaking News» Jenna Bush Hager makes a special appearance in Chicago on Broadway

Jenna Bush Hager lived out her childhood dream of becoming an actress by joining the cast of Chicago for a special Broadway performance.  

The 36-year-old Today correspondent donned black lingerie and thigh-high boots as she took the stage as the show's master of ceremonies and flawlessly recited the opening lines of the longest running musical in America.

Jenna opened up about the experience on the Today show Thursday morning, explaining that she used to audition for plays when she was a child.

'As a little girl I dreamed of being an actress, and my mom would take me every year to try out for the role of baby Cosette in Les Mis,' she recalled. 

'I never made the cut — until now.'

This week, stars of the Today show have been making their dreams come true, and Jenna's segment was all about her Broadway debut.  

The behind-the-scenes clip started with Jenna's arrival at the theater.

'This is my first time on the Broadway stage. I have been dreaming of this I was a little girl in Dallas, Texas,' she gushed. 'I hope I have my lines down. I have been practicing.'

Dream: As a little girl I dreamed of being an actress, and my mom would take me every year to try out for the role of baby Cosette in Les Mis. I never made the cut — until now,' she recalled 

Hard to handle: Jenna was admittedly nervous when she took the stage during rehearsal 

Costume: She was dressed a lace bra, a corset, and a pair of high-waisted briefs during her fitting 

At her rehearsal, Jenna admitted she was feeling some conflicting emotions as she took the stage for the first time.  

'I'm nervous, but I feel like this is where I am meant to be,' Jenna exclaimed.

During her fitting, she was dressed in a lace bra, a corset, and a pair of high-waisted briefs, which she wore over a pair of tights.

'The costume took some getting used to,' she said. 'This is the most demure if you can believe it — I promise dad.'

An hour before showtime, Jenna had a dress rehearsal with the cast, including Cuba Gooding Jr., who plays Billy Flynn.

The actor assured her that she would be fine, but Jenna was concerned that he was losing his voice.

'No, no. This is how I sound. This is all you get Jenna Bush,' he joked. 

Jenna's husband, Henry Hager, sent her flowers with a card that read: 'Break a cat paw. With love, Henry.' She was also given a Playbill with her name on it.

While backstage, she got a pep talk from actress Bianca Marroquin, who plays Roxie Hart in the show. 

'We are all rooting for you,' she told her. 'We are all super excited you are here. The audience is going to love you. Be prepared. You are going to receive a lot of love.'

Before long it was showtime, and while Jenna didn't miss a line, she didn't really remember her performance.

As soon as she stepped off the stage, she asked, 'Did I do my arms?' telling the camera: 'I blacked out.'  

While in the wings, she watched the show and waited to return to the stage for her dance number.

At the end of the performance, Jenna got to take a bow and was gifted a bouquet of red roses.

'Just like that I was razzle-dazzled by Broadway,' she said, noting that the experience was even better than her dreams.

Having a laugh: Al Roker couldn't help but ask if her husband asked her to bring the costume home, and Jenna admitted: 'He did — and they said no'

After the clip was over, Jenna told her Today co-stars Al Roker and Natalie Morales that it was scary watching herself on a large screen wearing 'basically Spanx.'

'It's a nightmare, but y'all everybody was so nice,' she said. 

Al couldn't help but ask if her husband asked her to bring the costume home.

Jenna earned plenty of laughs when she admitted: 'He did — and they said no.' 

She went on to apologize to 'any of the non-millennials watching' for the revealing costume she had to wear.

'I feel like my grandmother is probably rolling in her grave,' she said of the late Barbara Bush.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
