«Breaking News» I'm A Celebrity: Fans baffled as vegans campmates eat meat

Fleur East is a vegan and has vowed to shun challenges which are cruel to animals.

But viewers have been left 'baffled' by scenes aired on Monday night's episode of the reality show, which saw the former X Factor singer Fleur East tucking into wallaby.

Outraged fans have taken to Twitter to query her consumption of meat - just 48 hours into life in camp.

Fleur was clearly seen chowing down on a wallaby wing, with the camera zooming in on her meal.

A show source told MailOnline that Fleur made a conscious decision to shun her vegan diet before even jetting off to Austrlia.

The insider said: 'Fleur told producers that she didn't intend to be vegan in the jungle and would eat everything. This was her choice and no one made her say it.'

It has also been claimed that Vamps guitarist James McVey and Coronation Street's Sair Khan were vegans - however, this is not the case.

James is a strict vegetarian and will be sticking to his regime in the jungle, avoiding the meat on offer and instead eating more rice and vegetables.

'How the camp mates split and cook their food is up to them', the source added.

Viewers were convinced they had seen James and Sair eating meat on Monday night as well as Fleur.

One posted: 'On the vegan I'm a celeb front, it's interesting to see how much you can buy someone's morals for.'

Another shared: 'unsure why 3 vegans even wanted to go on i’m a celeb when it’s a show that exists on exploiting animals? where’s their vegan morals regarding that?'

'The vegan celebs on i’m a celeb making a deal abt being vegan then eating meat casually on the first day for no reason', a third wrote.

A fourth raged: 'All these vegans on I’m a celeb not wanting to do ‘animal challenges’ but will happily eat meat for their dinner bmt #imaceleb2018'.

MailOnline has contacted an I'm A Celebrity representative for comment.

Last year, Amir Khan was given special halal rations during his stint on I'm A Celeb to keep his diet in line with his Muslim faith.

A host of past contestants over the years have had special vegan or vegetarian requirements, including Shappi Khorsandi last year.

This isn't a new issue; in the first ever series Tony Blackburn and Uri Geller were both strict vegetarians.

Not a vegan! Contrary to reports, Sair Khan does not follow a vegan diet - meaning the only vegan in the jungle is Fleur

Magician Uri was voted to eat live maggots during a Bushtucker Trial, and Tony said would lose respect for him if he went through with it - which he did.

The radio DJ went on to win the series - despite refusing to eat any critters during the challenges.

It was previously reported that show bosses were seeking alternative ways for contestants to compete for food for the camp due to the vegan requirements of several stars this year.

A source told the Daily Star: 'It could prove a bit tricky for bosses if they refuse to do the eating Bushtucker Trials.

Fleur has already told bosses that she is strictly vegan and does not go near any animal products. It’s certainly not ideal.'

Adding further complications to the matter, the meat-free celebrities' co-star Nick Knowles also describes himself as a semi-vegetarian.

However, a source told MailOnline that accommodating vegetarians and vegans on the show is nothing new, explaining for the show: 'They've always had vegetarians and vegans campmates from series one onwards.

'Notably Shappi Khorsandi from last series was a vegan. If celebrities don't want to eat food on the trial they can chose not to take part in trial.'

In an interview with lifestyle website Get The Gloss earlier this year, former X Factor contestants Fleur revealed why she embraced a vegan diet at the end of last year.

The 31-year-old said: 'I watched What The Health on Netflix and when I found out what [animal products, according the documentary] are doing to our bodies, that was really my motivation. I became vegan the next day.

'I used to eat chicken every day – Nando’s was my best friend. I used to build muscle very quickly and I was worried that I would lose it...

'But a month into being vegan, I actually gained three kilos of muscle and my workout stayed the same. Interestingly my protein intake increased on a plant-based diet. That’s another myth about veganism, that you can’t build muscle.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
