Common mistakes people make that's limiting success on Instagram

  • HASHTAGS: A lot of people don't know how to research, choose and use hashtags so that they grow their accounts consistently and reach their ideal audience

  • CONTENT QUALITY: Blurry photos and grainy videos aren't going to cut it in the fast-paced world of the 'gram.

  • CAPTIONS: The captions that perform the best are under one paragraph in length and have an attention-grabbing first few words

  • INTERACTION: The secret sauce to get your new Instagram account up and running is to make sure to spend at least 20 minutes interacting with other Instagram users.

  • RUMOURS: One of the biggest mistakes that we all make from time to time is buying into the Instagram rumours that run rampant in Facebook groups and on the internet

'If you want to turn your Instagram account into a money-making platform the first thing that you need to decide is what exactly you are going to sell,' she explained.

'I know this seems obvious, but if you are a content creator it is really important that you list out exactly what you can offer and then make that super clear in your marketing.

'So if you're a fashion boutique for example, sharing photos of stunning girls wearing your clothes, but your bio description isn't clear… some people may assume that you are a blogger or feature account.

'To make money on Instagram, what you offer as a product or service needs to be fairly obvious. Mention what you offer in your bio, share promotional posts on occasion, and choose a good bio link.'

Travel bloggers, celebrities and YouTube stars can earn anywhere between $250 to $100,000 per post.

'It depends on their individual engagement rates, how well the brands mesh together and if an influencer has been able to attract a specific audience attractive for particular brands,' she explained.

Here, Christy highlighted the five common mistakes you could be making that's sabotaging your chances of building a successful money-making platform.

HASHTAGS

'The first most common mistake that people make is their hashtag strategy,' she said.

'A lot of people don't know how to research, choose and use hashtags so that they grow their accounts consistently and reach their ideal audience.

'Ideally you should change up your hashtag sets every month to keep seeing growth.'

CONTENT QUALITY

With more than one billion users across the world, Christy said another error she has noticed was content quality.

'Blurry photos and grainy videos aren't going to cut it in the fast-paced world of the 'gram,' she said.

CAPTIONS

'After a lot of research, we've found the captions that perform the best are under one paragraph (four sentences) in length and have an attention-grabbing first few words,' she said.

'It's really important to 'hook' your audience as soon as possible otherwise they'll just keep on scrolling.'

INTERACTIONS

'The secret sauce to get your new Instagram account up and running is to make sure to spend at least 20 minutes interacting with other Instagram users,' she said.

'Go through the hashtags that you've decided to use and leave genuine comments on other people's posts.

'Find new accounts to follow and make friends - at the end of the day, social media is about being social.'

BEHIND THE SCENES

Like any business, Christy said a lot of hard work goes into building a brand.

'Creating high-quality content for Instagram isn't all fun and games,' she said.

'Content creators who share beautiful photos of themselves lounging on a lilo in the middle of a pool with flowers and tropical delights scattered around may well have spent hours preparing for that one shot.

'And then after the perfect photo is snapped? There's editing, hashtag strategy, caption strategy and engagement strategy. PHEW! There is a lot to think about.'

To build an engaging feed, Christy advised you need to make sure your account is 'consistently you'.

'Everyone needs a signature style on Instagram. It is also handy to have a theme to your account whether it is travel photos, outfit photos, entrepreneur life,' she said.

'If your content isn't visually appealing, no-one will want to see it popping up in their newsfeed every time they go to refresh.

'First impressions are everything so make sure that your Instagram account looks incredible as soon as someone lands on it.'

DON'T BUY YOUR FOLLOWERS

Trying to stand out from the crowd can be challenging.

But the best way to boost your followers is to engage with other Instagram users, Christy explained.

'Don't fall for the traps of buying for followers or likes - this will ruin your account and you'll never get Instagram verification,' she said.

'Instead you should focus on creating quality content, engaging with others, and if you want a big boost you should try tagging relevant "feature accounts" who re-gram content under a certain theme.'

BEST TIME TO POST

'It is completely different for everybody,' she said.

'Try out different times to post - usually around times when people in your locality eat food, like breakfast, lunch, dinner. Those times tend to be the most popular.

'After you've got lots of posts that have been shared at varying times you can check your analytics to discover your best times to post per day.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
