«Breaking News» Doctor Who Christmas Day special cancelled as viewers sign petition

Distraught Doctor Who fans have flocked to Twitter after it was announced that no episode will air on Christmas Day for the first time in 13 years.

What viewers regarded as the 'traditional' Christmas Day special will this year air on New Year's Day, the BBC has confirmed.

An official Doctor Who fan account shared the announcement online, prompting shocked viewers to reply mourning the loss of their favourite 'Christmas tradition'.

A petition has now been set up by super fan Niall Moran from Portsmouth, calling on head writer Chris Chibnall to reinstate the show in its festive slot.

The schedule change is a massive shake-up to the BBC's traditional Christmas schedule, with the annual special a staple in the channel's festive TV line-up since the series was revived in 2005.

'My little girl to her age, now 17. She snuggled on the sofa, getting so exited, shouting 'mum, quick it's nearly on'. It's a family thing. I hope there s a good reason, why oh why (sic).'

Last month Jodie Whittaker's debut turn as the Time Lord in Doctor Who scored a huge ratings win for BBC One, with 8.2 million viewers tuning in to see her in action.

The actress, 36, appeared as the 13th incarnation of the time-travelling Doctor and almost doubled the number of fans watching show when compared to the equivalent series opener in 2017.

Last year's season - which saw Peter Capaldi as the lead role - opened with only 4.6million during its first episode.

All the best qualities: One thing that fans commended Jodie on was how she was able to take the best qualities from her predecessors (pictured David Tennant, who played the 10th Doctor)

An ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
