After being accused of throwing a fan's cell phone into a construction site back in July, Cleveland Cavaliers veteran J.R. Smith had his case adjourned in contemplation of dismissal in a Manhattan courtroom on Thursday morning.

There are two conditions: Smith is required to buy the fan a new cell phone for as much as $600, and he will be required to keep his record clean for six months.

If the 33-year-old New Jersey native can manage that, the incident will be expunged from his record.

As lawyer Alex Spiro told TMZ, Smith has already paid for the phone: 'He was issued a ticket, paid for the cell phone upgrade, and the case is being dismissed and sealed - this is a non event.'

Smith actually played 24 minutes in Washington on Wednesday night before his Thursday morning appearance in Manhattan, where he was seen in a long blue trench coat and white basketball sneakers. The last-place Cavaliers (2-12) will not play again until Monday, which is why Smith did not have to miss any games to accommodate his court appearance.

In the alleged incident, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania man accused J.R. Smith (center) of taking his phone and launching it into the construction zone because he tried to take a photo of the player. He then used someone else's phone to call the police and open a criminal mischief complaint against Smith, according to the New York Post

Smith turned himself into New York police in August after allegedly throwing a fan's cell phone into a construction site after the 20-year-old man took his photo outside a restaurant in Chelsea on July 26.

Smith has a reputation for making bad decisions, both on and off the court.

Recently he nearly drew a fine for publicly making a trade request, which is a violation of the NBA's collective-bargaining agreement.

At the end of regulation in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals, Smith seemingly forgot the score and dribbled out the clock in what he later realized was a tie game. The Cavaliers would ultimately lose in overtime and be swept in four games – their third Finals defeat at the hands of the Golden State Warriors over the last four years.

Off the court, Smith survived several frightening car wrecks early in his career, including one in 2007 that killed his best friend, Andre Bell. Ultimately Smith pleaded guilty to reckless driving and served 24 days in a New Jersey prison. He was also sentenced to 500 hours of community service.

During his days playing for the Denver Nuggets, Smith was often seen partying late into the evening - even before playoff games - and in 2009 he closed his Twitter account after he was criticized for referencing the Bloods gang in one tweet.

He would ultimately go back to Twitter, and in 2012 he was fined $25,000 by the NBA for posting a picture of a nearly nude woman.

In 2015, at a pizza shop near The Park restaurant, a 19-year-old man accused Smith of trying to choke him after the man taunted him about being traded from the New York Knicks. Smith wasn't charged after an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

Smith's daughter Demi got a big response in 2016 when an ESPN reporter asked the young girl if she was proud of her father, who was about to play in his first NBA Finals for the Cavaliers. Demi responded that she was, 'just proud of him because he made the championship without getting kicked off the team.'

Last season, Smith was suspended one game for throwing a bowl of soup at an assistant coach.

Smith has also been known as one of the more accessible players in the NBA. During his tenure with the New York Knicks, he went on an impromptu bike ride with fans in Manhattan one night and would often use public transportation to get around the city or return to his native Freehold, New Jersey.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
