«Breaking News» Trump administration rolls out sanctions against Saudi crown prince's adviser and 16 others

The Trump administration announced Thursday it is sanctioning 17 Saudis for their role in the killing of journalist and dissident Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, the Treasury Department announced.

Those to be sanctioned include Saud al-Qahtani, a former top aide to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as the Saudi Consul General Mohammed Alotaibi, the source said – but not the crown prince himself.

'The Saudi officials we are sanctioning were involved in the abhorrent killing of Jamal Khashoggi,' according to a statement from Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

'These individuals who targeted and brutally killed a journalist who resided and worked in the United States must face consequences for their actions,' according to a Mnuchin statement released Thursday morning.

'The United States continues to diligently work to ascertain all of the facts and will hold accountable each of those we find responsible in order to achieve justice for Khashoggi's fiancée, children, and the family he leaves behind,' Mnuchin said.

'The Government of Saudi Arabia must take appropriate steps to end any targeting of political dissidents or journalists,' Mnuchin said.

The move came as Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor was revealed to be seeking the death penalty for five out of 11 suspects charged in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, his office said on Thursday, as the kingdom tries to contain its biggest political crisis in a generation.

Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, Adel al-Jubeir, told reporters Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had "absolutely nothing to do" with the murder, following the prosecutor's comments.

Asked about pending sanctions, al-Jubeir said there was a difference between sanctioning individuals and holding the Saudi government responsible.

Khashoggi, a royal insider turned critic of Saudi policy, was killed in the country's Istanbul consulate on Oct. 2 after a struggle, by lethal injection, deputy public prosecutor and spokesman Shalaan al-Shalaan told reporters.

He was a Virginia resident and also wrote a column for the Washington Post, using it as a vehicle to call for free expression and internal and external dissent.

The sanctions will be implemented under the Global Magnitsky Act, which imposes sanctions over human rights abuses.

Among others facing sanctions are Maher Mutreb, an aide to Qahtani who has appeared in photographs with Prince Mohammed on official visits this year to the United States and Europe.

According to Treasury: 'Saud Al-Qahtani is a senior official of the Government of Saudi Arabia who was part of the planning and execution of the operation that led to the killing of Mr. Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2, 2018.'

'This operation was coordinated and executed by his subordinate Maher Mutreb, and involved participation of at least 14 other Saudi government officials: Salah Tubaigy; Meshal Albostani; Naif Alarifi; Mohammed Alzahrani; Mansour Abahussain; Khalid Alotaibi; Abdulaziz Alhawsawi; Waleed Alsehri; Thaar Alharbi; Fahad Albalawi; Badr Alotaibi; Mustafa Almadani; Saif Alqahtani; and Turki Alsehri. The Saudi consulate in Istanbul, where Mr. Khashoggi was killed, was overseen by Consul General Mohammed Alotaibi. All of these individuals are designated for being responsible for, or complicit in, or having directly or indirectly engaged in serious human rights abuse.'

Following the imposition of sanctions, 'any property or interests in property of the individuals designated today within or transiting U.S. jurisdiction is blocked. Additionally, U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with blocked persons, including entities 50 percent or more owned by designated persons,' Treasury said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
