«Breaking News» Striclty's Shirley Ballas is nursing her mother through cancer

She's enjoyed a glittering stage career and is now head judge on one of the biggest dancing competitions.

But Strictly Come Dancing's Shirley Ballas revealed that once the cameras stop rolling she is taking on a new role nursing her mother through her battle with cancer.

The celebrated dancer, 58, spoke to the Sunday Mirror after her mother was diagnosed earlier this year, admitting, 'I came over to her in the summer to take care of her and I had to learn to be a nurse'.

Audrey, 81, decided not to have chemotherapy and her daughter and grandson Mark, 32, support her in her decision.

Since the diagnosis, Shirley has spent her time cooking for her mother despite being 'a terrible cook' and admits the pair speaks at least four times a day.

Shirley joked: 'I would put her food down on a tray on her bed and I would be standing there like, "Is this okay?" And she would say, "You did good. Maybe a bit more salt next time".'

The duo have always been close and Shirley spoke out about the heartbreak of her brother David's suicide.

 'It was in the Christmas period that David died so as we run up to it now I normally find my mood changing. No one saw it coming', she said.

Shirley, who is now single, has been married previously to Sammy Stopford between 1980 and 1984 and again to Corky Ballas from 1985 to 2007 and previously spoke out about raising brother David's daughter as her own.

Despite being single Shirley prefers to spend her time in the gym but admits her mum is the first person she goes to for fashion support. 

The fashionista revealed that before each Strictly airing she would call her mum for critique on her look and joked that she would do a twirl.

Shirley is set to make her panto debut as Mother Nature in Jack and the Beanstalk and will spend Christmas with her Broadway star son and mother in the UK.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
