«Breaking News» New Yorkers left furious after the first season's first snowstorm brought the city to a standstill

New Yorkers were left furious Thursday evening after the first snowstorm of the season brought the city to a standstill.

Several city officials were angered by the city's response to the three to six inches of snow that blanketed the city.

'The City clearly didn't properly prepare for tonight's snowstorm — it's a mess. My office will be following up with the Department of Sanitation to demand answers,' Scott Stringer, the New York City Comptroller, tweeted.

Stringer's sentiments were echoed by Republican state assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, who challenged Bill de Blasio for mayor.

'The city's response today was an utter failure. It is clear our Mayor and his commissioners were not prepared for today's snowfall,' Malliotakis tweeted.

Others soon chimed in with some tweeting from their vehicles as they sat in standstill traffic.

'I'm tired, hungry, running out of gas and patience, I have to use the bathroom, I'm still stuck in traffic BUT I'm safe!' councilwoman Vanessa Gibson tweeted.

'Only God to thank for that because of the HORRIBLE response to today's snowstorm! This is beyond ridiculous and completely UNACCEPTABLE! Just terrible!' she added.

From St Louis to the South and into the Northeast, snow, freezing rain, and in some parts, sleet, made driving tricky and closed schools on Thursday.

In New York City, the wet snowfall and wind gusts Thursday downed numerous tree branches. Police advised people to stay indoors and avoid the roads.

Commuters also were advised to avoid the Port Authority Bus Terminal - which is also used by some to travel to New Jersey - due to overcrowding. By 5.30pm, the terminal had become an immovable block of wall-to-wall commuters all gazing up at the schedule board

'Hearing reports from all over the city about slow response to today's storm and I've seen downed trees outside of each event I've attended tonight,' New York City council speaker Corey Johnson tweeted

But those students who did make it to school were left stranded on school buses late into the night on Thursday.

Special needs student George Jordan, 21, spent seven hours on a bus - with only two or three other students - to The Bronx after the snow caused havoc across the city.

Jordan, who has cerebral palsy and uses crutches to walk, boarded his bus from Fashion Industries high school in Chelsea at about 3.30pm and didn't get home until about 10.30pm, his mother Nicole told The New York Post.

'He's exhausted. He's angry. He hasn't had anything to eat since lunch. He's definitely not going to school tomorrow because he's wiped,' she said.

Commuters also were advised to avoid the Port Authority Bus Terminal - which is also used by some to travel to New Jersey - due to overcrowding.

By 5.30pm, the terminal had become an immovable block of wall-to-wall commuters all gazing up at the schedule board.

Lines of people waited to get into the terminal as officials urged them to take trains or ferries.

The poor weather made it difficult for buses to reach the terminal, officials said.

A mayoral spokesman said the early storm meant that Metropolitan Transportation Authority didn't have snow chains on its buses. He said many of them had to pull over, 'further clogging streets'

And a multi-vehicle accident on the George Washington Bridge and the closure of the Bayonne Bridge connecting Staten Island to New Jersey added to the traffic nightmare.

'Hearing reports from all over the city about slow response to today's storm and I've seen downed trees outside of each event I've attended tonight,' New York City council speaker Corey Johnson tweeted.

'I'm working to get in touch with DSNY to get some answers because this is unacceptable. Stay safe out there everyone,' Johnson said.

‘The City clearly didn’t properly ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
