«Breaking News» Mother-of-two reveals how her Navy veteran husband brutally attacked her with a 'massive' flashlight

A mother-of-two was brutally beaten with a flashlight by her veteran husband after telling him that she wanted a divorce.

Ashley Bolt, 29, was also tied up and smothered with a pillow by Travis Kilburger, 32, moments after telling him she wanted their marriage to end at their home in Red Bluff, California.

Their children were sleeping just meters away when former navy engineer Kilburger launched the horrific attack.  

When Ashley survived the attack, Kilburger tried to blame her horrific injuries on one of her horses kicking her in the middle of the night and smeared her in mud to try and cover it up.

He then dropped her at a hospital but was later arrested when a nurse noticed rope marks around Ashley's wrists.

Kilburger is now serving nine years in jail for the attack on Ashley - who has since divorced him.

Mother-of-two Ashley said: 'I still find it hard to believe that I could have married such a monster.'

The couple first met while working at a horse sanctuary as teenagers in 2006 in Los Molinos, California.

They married in March 2008 and just three months later Ashley gave birth to their son John, now 10.

A year after that their daughter Audrey, now nine, was born. 

Despite the marriage and children, cracks began to appear in the couple's relationship. 

Ashley said: 'He was always on a boat. I had to spend long periods of time alone with two children.

'He was also financially controlling. We had a joint account and I worked as a vet tech and trained horses.

She said he reacted calmly initially but she woke up to find him beating her and smothering her with a pillow

'I was putting a good amount of money into the account but only he had access. I had to beg for money to pay bills or buy feed for the animals.

'Finally I made up my mind to end the marriage.'

Ashley told Kilburger that she wanted a divorce on May 25, 2014 and he appeared to take the news well at first.

She said: 'There was no fight. He wanted us to go into counselling but I refused. We disagreed and I went to bed in a separate room.

'I wasn't frightened that he might hit me. If anything, it was just awkward..'

When Ashley woke up, Kilburger - who had never been violent before - had bound her feet together and was beating her with a massive flashlight.

However, a nurse later became concerned when she noticed the rope burns on Ashley's ankles

She said: 'I just woke up and my face hurt. He was on top of me, my feet were tied and he was hitting me with a massive flashlight, the kind the police use.

'He said: ''If I can't have you, nobody will". I thought I was going to die that night. My daughter and my son were in their rooms just yards away.

'I drifted in and out of consciousness. Every time I came to, he was strangling me or trying to suffocate me with a pillow.

'The last time I woke up, I was on the ground. He had untied my feet.

'I asked him what had happened. I knew exactly what he'd done but I thought it was safer to pretend that I didn't remember.

'He told me that one of our horses had kicked me.'

Ashley again lost consciousness and when she woke up, she was in a car with Kilburger on a gravel road.

She said: 'I thought he was going to kill me but instead he got out of the car and smeared mud all over me.'

Kilburger then dropped Ashley at St Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, California, telling medics she had been involved in an accident with a horse.

But a nurse became concerned when she noticed rope marks on Ashley's ankles and called the police.

She said: 'He was arrested that night. He left the hospital as soon as he dropped me off and there were rope burns on my ankles so the nurse called the cops.

'Officers found him trying to leave our property with a loaded gun and our children who were just toddlers at the time.'

Kilburger was sentenced to nine years in 2015 for felony spousal battery with special enhancements and false imprisonment by violence.

Ashley says that her and her children's lives had been changed forever after the attack and they had their lives changed forever

Ashley said: 'The trial lasted two years and he tried every trick to get out of prison. He blamed the attack on PTSD and his time in the military.

'I had been told that he would get 15 to 20 years, but he was only sentenced to nine years.

'I was shocked - he got a lesser sentence just for admitting he had done it.. I don't feel like I got justice.'

Kilburger's attack changed the lives of Ashley and her children forever.

She said: 'I have permanent scars on my ankles. I suffer seizures and cluster headaches. My doctors think it is due to a lack of oxygen during the attack.

'I'm unable to work and I've had my driver license taken away because of the seizures.

'I was a pretty confident woman before. I owned my home, I had an education, I had my own career. I went from decent money to being on disability and welfare.

'You can't find a job working with livestock when you have seizures.'

She added: 'My son has the memory of an elephant.

'When the sheriff took them back into the house to get my clothes, little John saw my blood and hair all over the room.

'They know more than they should. They've had their worlds turned upside down.

'All I can do right now is be the best mum to my kids that I can - and I'm determined that Travis won't take that away from me as well.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
